Dave for some loaning them out strangely works out better in terms of the way the finances work for a football club.

Strange as it seems, we've probably made money by the series of loans a player like mirallas has made rather than taking a knockdown fee.

Similarly we could have say sold vlasic and been lucky to recoup what we paid this summer, s Lian has seen what we could sell for likely double, whilst not having to pay his wages, and whilst recieving a loan fee.

Not all simply black and white.
If we're to proceed as per Brands' latest statement then getting money in upfront, and not in dribs and drabs, is going to be crucial in replacing those sold.

Around 10 goals in 18 appearances this season.
42 in 76 apps for RBL over all in a top tier league at age 22.

Don’t need to be a FIFA fanboy to know he’s a special talent. And to suggest the elite teams aren’t watching him closely is absurd.

Obviously but any good player and people come out with the "he'll only go to a CL club" like everything in football is so black and white.

What is a CL Club?

That varies from Barcelona and Real Madrid to clubs like Celtic and PSV

Would Werner get first team football at elite Clubs like Barca? Would they pay £70 million for a squad player? Would he go to be a squad player?

bottom CL clubs couldnt afford him and play in gash leagues.

Middle tier CL clubs like Inter, Napoli, Roma, Lyon would likely attract him and 'some' would give him first team football but could they afford him or afford his wage demands/agents fees? Would he rather go to 6/7th Everton on 180k a week playing in the prem than on 120k a week playing at AC Milan/Lyon?

Not everything is black and white and it annoys me in the same way that any good player from a non top 6 club who is linked to us gets the **insert name** wont go Everton they'll go to a top 6 club" like its so simple.

Sadly that’s the problem with our current position.
We can match his demands financially as good as most other teams. But not in terms of silverware (yet)

RBL are 4th in the Bundesliga and have just crashed out of the Europa League.
We’d be a sideways move at best (if we qualify for next seasons EL)
It’s not outrageous to say it’s possible for them to qualify for the CL for next season.

Look, it would be an amazing signing if we got him, but I just can’t see how he’d end up here.

Is there a qualitative difference?

...I think there is, Dave. In the Kenwright years ‘sell to buy’ was indicative of a financial hand-to-mouth existence, in that we had to sell to raise monies to buy. When Moshiri came in there were many posters on here suggesting that situation hadn’t changed but despite monies secured from Lukaku and Stones, Transfer windows in this era demonstrate we are not living a hand-to-mouth existence.

Brands comments regarding one out, one in, are not about raising cash for transfers. They are about good housekeeping and not having an unweildy number of players to work with.
