He was 19/20 in a terrible side.Get some perspective. Shearer, Henry, Kane were all struggling at that age to make an impact

Is that really true? At 21 shearer had moved to Blackburn for an English record fee, Henry had won a world cup medal and kane scored over 20 goals for spurs in a league campaign and over 30 in all competitions.

So they have to pick players they don’t want? You don’t see how that’s weird?

They pick the players they want, or whats best available to them.

I can only speak for the NFL in regards to American sports but the draft system works well for it. Would not work in the UK and Europe though due to each team having a youth system.

But, the NFL is much fairer than the premier league and very socialist compared to the Premier League.

Don't follow American sports at all but I'm guessing it works because they don't realistically have another league to play in if they don't like it. If the best youth player got drafted to bolton or sunderland they'd just laugh and go play in Spain or Italy.

It’s the best way to get rid of any TOP 2/3/4/5/6 voodoo curse...but Europe will never adopt it...

.......it’s day 3 of the January transfer window, and here’s a summary of this Thursday morning’s Toffee transfer gossip;

- According to Spanish newspaper, Marca, Everton have enquired about Barcelona winger, Malcolm. The 21 year old Brazilian has started just 4 La Liga matches since his £36.5m move from Bordeaux and Everton are virtually prepared to match that figure with a £35m bid. Goal, however, suggest Everton face competition for the player from Chinese Super League team, Guangzhou Evergrande who have submitted a £45m bid.

- Sky Sports report Hull City are demanding £20m to prize away winger Jarrod Bowen. Everton and Spurs have been linked with a move for the forward.

- The Daily Mail again say West Brom and West Ham are considering loan moves for Everton’s 28 year old midfielder, James McCarthy.

- Various outlets report Wolves have bid £18m for Chelsea’s 21 year old striker, Tammy Abraham, who is on loan at Aston Villa (I know some folk on here like this player).
Buy all the Brazillians.

All of them.

On a more serious note, even though it's slim pickings, thanks for the daily updates, it's the kind of performance that sometimes seems to be severely lacking in our first team.

Weird the Malcom bit, we were strongly linked in the summer but I thought Brands had said Lolzano is too much of a risk as no prem experience so a bid of 20 mil would be max yet we could bid 35 for malcolm?!

Also, badly Everton that we show interest (if true) in an exciting player and a bloody chinese team blows our bid out of the water.

The thing with American sports, is they grew in isolation from the rest of the world. Their major leagues (football, baseball, hockey and basketball) only have around 30 teams in them - that's not even an average of 1 team per state. We have our pyramid system in football because every neighbourhood wanted a team and the sport grew out of that - and its part of why its the world's sport. They're both just different worlds that were established before the globalisation of sports and people in both sides think their way is best. The Americans think their system means anyone can win, but with no relegation its built on a platform of nobody really loses. We think with relegation and complete freedom and no draft that our system provides the chance of being able to move from the very bottom of the pyramid to the top. It's just different and you either accept how it is or just ignore how the other side does things. I personally can't get into American sports (and my work has meant I've spent a lot of time in America), but I don't think it's the draft system or anything like that that bothers me. I just think it's all a bit boring, although I've never really given hockey a go.

There are loads of examples either way.

Footballers are all different and will improve at different times and to different degrees.
