That could be interpreted in a couple of ways.....we are skint.... or we need to sell players before we buy.
There's a difference between having no money and being at the cap of your wage budget. It's clear to anyone that given the wages in the squad and the number of senior players nowhere near being wanted in the first team that there are still a lot of players need shifting before any big or biggish signings should be made.
Ive just counted, we currently, once all our loans come back, we have a 43 player first team squad.
4 freaking 3 players, on contract.
And people wonder why we need to sell before we buy.
Or we’ve reached the ceiling with the wages as far as FFP goes and have to get players off the books, before we can buy again.
Just saying like.
What amazes me is the amounts of money the club will save as players contracts run out or they are sold.
Baines, Jakielka and Williams leaving this summer will probably save about 10m per annum.
We will almost definitely be able to sell a few others who are doing well while out on loan like Besic,Pennington and a couple others but they are not very high earners.
Bolasie,Sandro,Mirallas are probably the most expensive with little or no chance of a transfer fee. I expect we would happily release all three if a club just covered their wages.

Digne, for 15mil. Most people would have wanted us to sign Teirney from Celtic for 25mil instead.
The mentality at the club should be the right players at the right price. Not, we need to spend big money.
Spurs haven’t spent big money, look at them.
Also, it will be Brands himself making the decision not to sign anyone.

We have simply got to shift some of these players off the books wage wise or sale wise because we aren't the kind of club who can have 6/7 players on 60+k a week doing nothing
It makes sense to trim the squad. It has to be done whether we like it or not and your a fool if you don't see this needing to be done.

Get rid of the crap and then we can rebuild this mess of a squad with the right people in charge ( Brands) for once.

Blame him for appointing the manager but not for his manager signing players that have not worked out well.

There were reasons to believe that he was available for £14-18m - especially when there was an embargo at that time with multiple papers saying the same thing, so the info must've come from somewhere.
Our cheapest signings have been Lookman, Digne, DCL and Vlasic, all for less than we paid for Bolaise and his wages.

Reigning in the spending is not a bad thing or are you completely unaware of the number of clubs who have been ruined by gambling with the finances and not making prudent business decisions?
