If that is legit and we do collect 30m for him, how can you not be ecstatic?

He is 29. He is never going to get any better. We’ve made enormous losses on Klaassen, Bolasie, (Sigurdsson despite not sold), Mina?, Keane?, Tosun? – who knows who else. It is unsustainable. Cash in, and find a replacement because he will never have the same value again.

To his credit, his a terrific player. Terrific defensive weapon and protects the centre halves like no other play in the premiership.

The issue is, at Everton he doesn’t fit in. Personally I think Gylfi is a bit to blame as Gylfi plays far too close to the striker and occupies a “midfield” role, it means Gueye. That means Gueye is forced to play a more ball playing role, which doesn’t suit him. If we’re to finally get to the 433 that Marco Silva wants to play, it requires a deep lying playmaker and two almost box to box midfielders. Gueye is none of those three, and nor to be frank is ye old Gilf.

Good luck to the cob, hope he doesn’t spend too much time in the sheds and gets a gig or three.

....a win’s a win and with just a couple of days of the window left, here’s the penultimate Toffee transfer rumour round-up for this Wednesday morning;

- According to The Daily Mirror and Sky Sports, Manchester City and Arsenal could hijack PSGs move for Everton midfielder, Idrissa Gueye. The Mail says Everton boss Marco Silva is hopeful of keeping the 29 year old who he says was left out of the team at Huddersfield with a slight groin strain. Silva was quoted as saying he was unaware of any improved offer from PSG for Gueye.

- TeamTalk suggest Crystal Palace are in line to land a loan deal for Everton midfielder, James McCarthy. It is thought the 28 year old was keen on a move to Celtic after an enquiry was made at the beginning of the month, as he supported the Scottish club when he was growing up.

- The Daily Star report Marco Silva has been told by his Board that there is no money to buy Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi this month.

- A couple of outlets suggest Everton and Tottenham interest in Monaco midfielder, Youri Tielemans, but the French club only want to deal with Leicester who are in advanced talks to sign the 21 year old.

That's a relief, spunking more money on a reject from a big club for too much money. We already have Schneiderlin, Walcott and Siggurdson who all failed at top 6 clubs. You have to pay these guys massive wages and in our experience it hasn't worked out.

Idrissa and McCarthy out? The exodus continues... if we could sneak Bolasie out and Morgan out then I'd be very impressed.

I am sure that we will have to sacrifice some better players like Gueye if we need to strengthen the overall squad just to balance the books. Such is life.

If they'd had Gana in whilst Fernandinho was out this season, they'd be sitting on top of the league. Sometimes you need to get a player in to allow the ballers to play. No shame in being the water carrier because those who do this job are the foundations of the team.
