The 343 formation is an interesting one, it allows centre backs like Holgate more opportunity to play in their natrual position rather than being pushed to full back. Like a couple of people have said this would suite Galloway who didn't have quite good enough distribution to play as a modern full back but certainly has many of the qualities required to play as a left sided centre back in a 3. It also propobably suites the modern full back a bit more who these days is probably as good if not better going forward as they are defending. Connelly is a player who may benefit having played pretty much everyone in defence and midfield is probably well suited to that wide player in the four whilst like Baines and Coleman being able to slot into a back 4 if required. It will be interesting to see if Koeman persists with this formation and what effect it has on player recruitment and development from the under 23s and below. It may be that the like of Dowell have more of a chance of a break through as the forward.
