January Transfer Thread 2017

I know we are all feeling good as we humped City and have generally improved and Lolpool have given us a great week.....But.....

Schneiderlin, Bolasie, Gana, Stek and Williams as signings for the first team......Along with a couple of youngsters that you wouldn't want to judge/hype too early....That would not have been received well by me or I'm sure by many many fans if, on the day Koeman signed, you were told it would be our business under Mosh/Koeman after two transfer windows.

And that's where I will stand on it if what Koeman says is true and we don't add to the first team options by the close of the window. Not good enough.

Genuine question Eggs as I know you've played a high level...

The fact we've won nothing for so long, does that not have an impact on the senior players (the dominant forces in the dressing room)?

I take your point on both the mid-80s and the Wigan lads but in debate i'd say:

We were still a power in the game in late 60s, early 70s so perhaps had more of a winning mentality within the club.

Robles, McCarthy and Kone, whilst brought in as FA Cup winners, I can't imagine are big personalities, or bigger personalities I should say than the likes of Baines, Coleman, Jags etc.

Just imagine, as an example, bringing Wayne Rooney back. Farfetched maybe, but there's a player who would gain respect from talent and that fact he's won everything.

...getting the balance right is the biggest challenge for any manager. I honestly think there's a bit of luck involved. I don't know if buying a Reid and buying Gray was a tactful decision but all of a sudden the mix was right. Sometimes things fall into place, sometimes it's about right time at the right place.

You know me, I'm a Rooney fan but I don't know if he's in RKs thoughts.

I think you will find winning Premier League 2 is the main priority

If we sign 4 players @ 30m this window that would be classed as a success by some, if we finish 9th with those extra players it would be a failure.
There can be no sound judgement made, it can only judge success or failure after the fact, not before or in the middle of the season.
If you wanted to make a preliminary judgement on the summer signings, then Gana, Williams and Calvert-Lewin could be judged to be successful, I would put Bollassie in that category, unfortunately, we do not know how his injury will effect him, Valencia maybe not so.
If we finish in the top six then the season and therefore the transfer policy was excellent. We finish 9th or lower questions have to be asked.
However, from my point of view, given the squad, Koeman inherited I expected a relegation fight, therefore my idea of a success may differ from others.

...it's a good point you make about winning the U23 league is a greater priority. That suggests the strategy is about bringing talent in at 17/19 years of age. I'm happy with that approach. Saying that, a run in the Youth Cup will still indicate we have brought a good one through ourselves.

I'm sure this has been discussed but ivanovic is leaving Chelsea this week - not a bad shout as a short term option to shore up the defence? Especially if jags leaves - perfect replacement really

Sure we should just go out and get Messi and Ronaldo for a team that has had back to back finishes in the bottom 10 and no European football as well as being out of both cups, this window round, add that to a team that needs major work in terms of balance and quality, which will take a few windows, we aren't exactly that attractive to players beyond the quality of who you listed.

Give it a few windows and a sprinkle it with a bit of realism mate... Personally I think our signings have been great and give us options and qualities we didn't already have in the team, as long as Stek remains a number 2 or 3 I'm happy.

Too old, I don't think we should do anything short term at this stage, also I don't think he would get a start at Everton anyway

Bit of a silly extreme to go to?

How do you know my expectations are unrealistic? None of us know precisely how limited our options are due to the poor two seasons and no Europe. It's just speculation.

If that is all we have spent our money on after two windows then I am not overly impressed or happy. As would have been my opinion if you listed those signings on Koemans first day.

For me in hindsight our kids were the big winners by not getting in witsel, Mata et al. I don't think Koeman expected that Davies or Holgate had the impact they did. Then taking their chance has saved us huge dosh!

This window has been prefect for me as we have a ridiculously exciting youngster come in and a replacement for our ageing midfield stalwart.

We could bring in a striker but why now? If we can get our hands on a world class player to take the 2nd striker role in which would push Mirallas out (I like the guy) then ok. I would prefer to see Walsh and Dowell given runs though. If they don't get a run before the summer we might end up buying them out of their chance when we do buy our 2nd striker.

Messi and ronaldo shouts rolled out 4 days before window closes? wow that must be a record normally that is the deadline day special.

Nobody expects us to sign world class players.

We don't expect the west ham reject to be our backup to Rom, yet the board is more than happy to sign him with option to buy along with a Fulham backup as our number one for start of season.

Horrible excuse that is for another sub par window

Mata would still walk into our team who regularly plays Lennon.

Why wouldn't you want a striker when we start Mirallas up front and have to bring Valencia on as a match winner, talk about accepting mediocrity

Personally I would rather get the players in now even if it costs more because we can bed them in and be more prepared for next season.

Plus you never know if those quality additions end up pushing us further then 7th

Say we want Keane, Burnley are 10 points above the drop, Why would they even consider selling in this window when it's worth 100m a season to stay in the Prem, Same goes for another rumoured target Sigursson
