There's a koeman interview somewhere where he's asked about gibsons contract. RK said that the contract had been agreed with the players so he was just honouring the offer. Whether or not there were other teams involved it doesn't really matter as he obviously decided to sign with us.
The new contract was offered to Gibson befor Koeman officially signed, so think that is what Koeman was getting at in that interview.
DARRON GIBSON has signed a contract extension with Everton that will keep him at Goodison Park until 2018, the Premier League club have announced.
Injuries restricted the 28-year-old to 11 appearances in all competitions for Everton last season, and he has also missed out on representing Ireland at
Euro 2016 this month.
Everton sacked manager Roberto Martinez in the penultimate week of last season and are poised to announce Ronald Koeman as their new boss.
Gibson, who joined the Toffees from Manchester United in January 2012 said he had chosen to stay despite other 'options'.
"I am absolutely delighted," he told the club's website. "I had a few options but as long as Everton were giving me the option I was never going anywhere else."
"People say, ‘Once Everton has touched you,’ and it is true. It is a great club, there are great people here and the dressing room is great, so I was never signing anywhere else."
“Obviously, I have had a tough few years but thankfully the Club have stuck by me and I have signed for another two years, so hopefully the next two years go a lot better."
