January Transfer Thread 2017

Probably be classed as moaning but I don't care.

There will be comments about saving money until the summer made in the following days followed by all talk of who we actually want in the summer over the next couple of months.

Then the cycle will repeat itself. I am happy with this window, I'm not complaining about it and I say this as a blue but we really are crap at buying players. Jesus I know we will be fine but we have got rid of a quarter of the squad literally and signed a teenager and one senior player in return. The increased wage budget people harped on about is wasted, so there was no point in selling stones after all (allegedly) and still no signs of spending.

But again I repeat I am happy with the business done this window. You can be happy with what we have done and still see the crapness of it, this is why I had no expectations of the window;)

But Bolasie, Schneiderlin, Lookman, Gueye, Williams, Stek, Valencia are surely better than what has gone out?

Cleverley, Niasse, Gibson, Oviedo, Deulofeu (questionable but his application lets him down)?

Add into that the emergence of youngsters such as Holgate and Davies into fully-fledged first-teamers, plus Calvert-Lewin when he returns, and Besic.

Schneiderlin and Lookman represent two players that fill in between them about four or five positions, which is the way to go.

These arguments go round in circle when you use an argument such as "better than what's gone out".

Before typing that you already know that being better than Cleverly or Niasse or Gibson shouldn't be any kind of bench mark for our signings.

'Just spending for the sake of it'
holds no weight as in summer we had poor defence poor mids one striker at the club so the new DOF spent 25 mil on bolasie who doesnt score

I said same about Enner yesterday they said he's better than Kone

Only answer is both aren't good enough

Hugo Gomes at watford is arguably better than Steklen I wouldn't want either starting for us

You are right of course mate. Hard to argue that those we have brought in are not well better than what we sent out. There will be more to come this summer for certain (we can't go into next season with this thin a squad).

I think that those who are not just losing their minds have concerns as to whether or not the players we bring in when we do get some in will be up to the standard we have been led to believe we are after.

I think there is genuine reason to be concerned that we will be able to get the Mata's, Carvalho's and Van Dijk's of the world to buy into our project and that we will need to operate at a level below that (think Keane).

I don't have a problem with it because that is how the real world works - I just wish they would be up front about it rather than going with the "we bid 60M for Koulibaly" tactic.

The fear for me is have we done enough to a) get us into Europe and b) keep Rom? As i think both of those will be key for us to continue in the right direction.

I agree. Apart from Mirallas that is a list of no hopers. The question isn't just improving, it's improving by a significant amount, be arsed with slightly improving on Lennon (not hard) then being stuck with him for another 2-3 seasons. We're shopping in a different market now. Koeman doesn't strike me as a settler. He wants top quality, there is more than enough proof that is extremely rare in January especially recent January's.

I think it should have been possible to have significantly improved our attacking options in two windows.

Therefore I'm not overly impressed by the work done in this area, as joyously happy I am with the squad clearout.

Posters can disagree with that but I don't think such opinions should be dismissed as some are being dismissed today.

Can someone please provide me with the Top 10 most expensive transfers of the window to premier league teams?

Genuinely curious but surely we're the biggest spender on there
