Feel like im sticking up for @davek bit too much here lol

But...Koeman seemed to simply isolate lukaku by playing the midfield alot deeper and closer to the defence for many games this season. This of course nullified our attack and made barkley especially look hopeless but helped the defensive stats.

However, we have looked alot better defensively which is down to davies in as well as the added pace of holgate imo and i think with barry out we will be able to push up alot more
Correct. He's comparing apples with pears.

The market was crazy overvalued this year. Case in point we needed 25M for bolasie. The market is starting to cool a bit. Case in point the sales of Payet, Depay, Berihino and Van Aaronholt. So it probably made a little sense that we didn't dive right in. If anything we should have waited on Scheinderlein because I'm guessing he could have dropped to the 15M range by the end of There will be plenty of opportunties to fume if we stand pat in the offseason.

How would the price drop to £15 mil when WBA had already bid more than that?

I've already provided him with the year on year comparisons, so I think you'll find I compared apples with apples.

I do realise that you avoid these unfortunate facts like the plague like.
Apples and pears in terms of you not comparing the performance of back fours across the two regimes. You are muddying the waters on that by comparing goals conceded. If I set up with a back four and three defensive midfielders every game and instructed them to get shut of the ball upfield that would be a lot more secure than any team set up in a more positive manner to take the game to the opposition. Nothing to do with back fours.

To recap: our back four are as pitiful now as they were 12 or 24 months ago,. No question whatsoever.

Well for that to work you'd need the same opposition to play the same team for a true comparison

I'll ask it again to those who are disappointed in this window: what players of the quality we want did we miss out on? I can see if sigurdsson was moved but it's clear Swansea wasn't selling, similarly Keane was not for sale. Would you consider Ighalo for 20 mil a missed opportunity?

Just seems to me players of the quality we want weren't available.

Pardon me for using the goals conceded as the comparator for making a judgement on whether we've defensively improved or not lol

That's a startling revelation you've added there as well, I mean who'd have thought that pushing the 2 full backs on as wingers and leaving the back 2 completely exposed when possession got turned over could lead to you being defensively mince

Oh and btw actually having defensive drills probably helps as well like, and practising defending corners, who'd have thought it.....

This would be a valid argument if we were producing fewer goals than last season, because it would clearly indicate that the more defensive setup has affected our offensive output, but the fact is it hasn't:

So in common matches, we've produced the exact same number of goals for while conceding 14 fewer goals (a 40% decrease in goals conceded). And somehow this is a negative in your eyes.
