January Transfer Thread 2017

I have no idea, Tom Mouse dropped it yesterday, I checked his digits and hes 2nd choice over in Spain currently, 2 CL and 3 La Liga games only this season, which means he could be available.

Who knows, watch this space.

He was dropped in the final for savic end of last season and has lost his place to him since then as simeone is worried he will be a ticking timebomb as hes a big of a nutter ;)

I like him.

I think people tend to merit correct knowledge of pending transfers rather than correct knowledge of other aspects of the clubs 'lesser' dealings.

Is that fair or just? Well that's for other people to decide and the more objective individual will probably say no but people aren't always objective.

Hence why I agree that he gets an unfair level of criticism. Still, perhaps if he had advocated less the certainty of transfers he'd get more leeway.

As your rightly mention, he's got some right and he has got some wrong so people can make their own judgements on how valid his sources are.

The pitfalls of being in the know and what not I guess... The scepticism that he's drip fed fake stories by the club is tin-foil hat stuff however!

Thats reasonable. I think a lot of the attacks on him are completely out of order, but some are legitimate. If you put information out there that doesn't come in, on a forum you will be questioned and rightly so. I'd hate this place to end up like RAWK where posters can't be questioned.

IN all fairness to Esk as well, I have never heard him say "Player x will definitely be signed". He may stop just short of that, but there is an important distinction to be drawn. He may have said "we are progressing very smoothly with x/y/z". So I don't think he ever uttered the words that are being suggested.

As I've said maybe he should be more mindful of passing information on? I hope not though, as in the end everyone loses from that. If people don't like his information or feel he is untrustworthy there is a reasonable channel to question it, or alternatively they can just put him ignore. Rather than posters sharing information being attacked, I do think people need to be more open-minded and critical in how they receive it.

What about when he ran City ragged in the CL?

Quality player. Glad he's proved himself. Will be moving for sure in the next window or two. I'd throw loads at them tbh, just get him in. Mental how nobody signed him, although he did sign for Celtic as he was guaranteed first-team football. A good move from him and his advisors. A youngster actually thinking about their career and not £££

yeh but he shafted fulham by joining celtic

Apart from the Lookman deal, the other players linked don't seem to suggest much evidence of scouting leading to concrete offers having been done.

I hope I'm wrong there and that we can get a pleasant surprise from an unknown quarter.

We are going to need a lot of players over the next 2-3 windows, and will be limited in the amounts we can raise in sales. It's important that we scour every market possible, in particular continental Europe, to make whatever budget is there stretch as far as it can. We seem to have particular difficulties in Europe in raising our profile with players so I hope Walsh and his staff have been putting the preparatory work in since last August.

Sometimes I think it doesn't always matter what structure is in place as managers and DoFs still tend to look in familiar places for players, most particularly former clubs, former players, and players of the same nationality and/or with whom they share an agent. It's an obvious point but it's effective scouting and networking that will be the single biggest factor in rebuilding the squad on the scale required and in the timeframe required IMO.

Schneiderlin will cost £20m and we are not going to be able to rebuild a squad full of signings of that cost, or higher. In addition 2 or 3 duds at that price will make things exceedingly more difficult. The stakes are very high.

Why are people desperate for random 'gems' who have no PL experience?

That's the last thing we need now.

We need quality, proven players who can come in and play how Koeman wants the team to play.

Then add in the 'gems' on top. They're the sprinkles, but we need the ice cream first.
