We should go for Chancel Mbemba of Newcastle.
For some reason he's not playing there but I've seen him play for Anderlecht (in CL as well) and he's really great. Strong, fast but especially technically good. A real football playing CB. Next to him you can put someone who can only defend and head balls away (Williams? Mori?).

The only player from Newcastle I'd consider is jammal Lascelles.

Week 3: sign a winger (20M) and shed 1 piece of deadwood (4M)
Week 4: shed 1 more piece of deadwood (3M) and probably Geri boy (11M)
Deadline day: Sell McCarthy (17M) and sign both a young CB and a SS (35M total)

5 in, 4 out. Net spend about 50. Would be a very, very solid window in my mind (assuming the 3 unnamed players are not utter poo).

If that were to somehow all work then go full bore for Messi in the summer.

On a serious note....Fonte to me is a no. UNLESS we can convince someone to take Jags for 5M (looking at you Moyes) and then parley that 5M into Fonte

I was really thinking about how this looks to the rest of the squad. If you were replacing Jags with VVD or some young hotshot centre half, that would be one thing. Unceremoniously binning him off after almost 10 years of service for a stopgap solution might send the wrong message.
