January Transfer Thread 2017

Well, they did have Tadic, who provided that bit of guile and craft.

We'll see how this goes.

Tadic never played when S'ton played with 3 at the back last year IIRC

It was mainly

Forster

Fonte - VVD - Bertrand

Cedric - Davis - Wanyama - Clasie/Ward-Prowse - Targett

Long - Pelle - Mane

So, for when we have to switch systems, I think a playmaker is key. Barkley can't do the No.10 role. I suppose Kev is the most natural fit for that but maybe he's not consistent enough.

The famous 3-5-3 formation?

They'll never see it coming!

Hence my post.

I know Chelsea havent changed their sydtem but they have players like Hazard Pedro Willian & Moses supporting Costa.

we have lookman, mirallas, barkley who i think koeman see's all as able to play the 'second striker' i think we'll be bringing in a bigger guy / more of a target man as the striker.

I also think we'll go for a winger and a cb.

Can't see us signing a 'wide forward' whilst the club still have:

Mirallas, Lennon, Del, Bolaise, McGeady, Lookman and Cleverley on the books.

I think we'll wait til summer after we have got shut permanently of 3 or 4 of those.

I think we may sign 'like for like' replacements if Jags or Kone are shipped out. Not expecting anything else until the squad is trimmed.

And Tarashaj.

from a good source, this is steve walsh's special list, been compiling it for a long time and one of the reasons he got the job apparently...

  • Dionisis Chiotis (Goalkeeper) ...
  • Darijo Srna (Right back) ...
  • Anthony Vanden Borre (Centre back) ...
  • Taribo West (Centre back) ...
  • Michael Duff (Left back) ...
  • Freddy Adu (Right midfield) ...
  • Kennedy Bakircioglu (Centre midfield) ...
  • Tonton Zola Moukoko (Left midfield)
maybe a couple in from here then...

No Christiano Lucarelli? what are we paying him for FFS!

Robles

Williams
Holgate
Ramiro

coleman
gana
morgan
davies
baines

rooney
Lukaku

Bring Joe Hart in for Joel in the summer :dance::dance:

edit: Drop Morgan for Ross is also possible, not knocking the lad, just how I think it will end up if Rooney was to return.

Still just over a week to go, but noticeable how quiet the rumour mill has gone

I'd much rather get the right players in than buy for the sake of buying in January, so if our business is now all done for January, then fair enough, but I wonder how many will be flipping their lids next week if this is the case?

I'm not sure, unlike the summer expectations have been fairly modest from most fans.

If our business is done, as you say fair enough, if they can't manage to sign any other targets. I can understand and accept why that is the case in January.

Our position in the league, upturn in form recently, and emergence of Davies in particular will probably all weigh against more signings in what is already a fairly stagnant market. I'm sure they'll do another deal or two if it is right for the club and everything is in place. Wouldn't mind another few being shipped out too, even if we don't sign anymore.

I do expect that they will be more bullish and aggressive in the summer though. We'll need at least another four, I think six.
If there is a stash of money left unspent, it will be our 3rd window under Moshiri and I think then that it's a case of now or never as regards spending it.

We need to be ready to do business at the start of July, perhaps even earlier in some cases. There is no World Cup/Euros, no new manager and DoF, and surely all of Walsh's scouting and analysis will bear more fruit then?

If we don't spend sufficient money in the summer and are heading into TDD in August still looking for more than a couple of players, it will not bode well. But that is for the summer.
