Can't argue with this tbh. People praise Martinez for various reasons but often overlook how close he was to bringing us down. We're still suffering some effects of his recruitment, sacking of important backing room staff (who didn't agree with his methods etc) and where he left us overall.
 
So this morning we have:

INS
Rodriguez on loan (mirror)
Branthwaite £750k (multiple)
Gedson Fernandes (mail)
Ruben Dias + Ferro (mail)

Hopefully @Eggs will add some more detail and sizzle later on...

For me, the signings from the list I would like would be Ferro, Dias, Fernandes and Branthwaite.

Ferro and Dias are both very similar players at Benfica. Ferro is the left sided centre back and Dias is on the right.

Both 22, Dias has had almost global links to the top tier sides and 16 caps while Ferro has gone under the radar with no caps to his name. Im not quite sure why as I cant see the difference between them really, perhaps @BlueToff @Nymzee could enlighten me?

Seems strange that we are linked with Benficas starting two centre backs...never heard of anyone selling both in a Jan window but still exciting lol


Fernandes seems to have fallen out with his coach and is a world class talent...branthwaite of course has the feel of a Stones/Holgate type signing.

Id be very happy if we brought those 4 players in this window (as unlikely as it may be).
 
.....day 5 of the transfer window, here’s the Toffee transfer rumours for this Sunday morning;

- The Mirror is saying Ancelotti is backing a loan move for Real Madrid playmaker, James Rodriguez. The Express also report Everton want the 28 year old Columbian who is not in Zidane’s long-term plans at the Bernabeu.

- Turkish journalist, Gokmen Ozcan suggests Everton striker Cenk Tosun is set to join Crystal Palace on a 6 month loan deal. TRT Sport also go with the story, saying Tosun has rejected a move to Germany whilst Derbyshire Live reckon the 28 year old also turned down a loan deal with Derby County.

- According to The Mail and a number of other outlets, Everton and Newcastle will enter the race to sign Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes. The 20 year old is rated at £34m and is also linked with West Ham and Manchester United.

- The Mail also links Everton with Benfica Centre Back pairing, Ferro and Ruben Dias. Both defenders are 22 and have recently signed new contracts. The same article also mentions Everton interest in centre backs Jarrad Branthwaite of Carlisle and Swansea’s Joe Rodon.

- The Liverpool Echo confirms recent rumours, that Everton has opened talks with Barcelona regarding 20 year old Centre Back, Jean-Clair Todibo. Barcelona appear willing to let the Frenchman leave but are insistent on a buy-back clause.

- The Liverpool Echo also picks up on reports that Carlisle now want Everton to pay £800k for 17 year old Centre Back, Yarrad Branthwaite. Everton are now weighing up whether to increase their offer, with RB Leipzig apparently joining the defenders list of suitors.

- Everton’s pursuit of Adrien Rabiot could stall according to the Mail, as Juventus want to include the midfielder in any deal with Manchester United for Paul Pogba.

- According to ESPN, Real Madrid are in talks with Flamengo starlet Jesus Reinier. The 17 year old Brazilian was linked with Everton in the summer.

As I posted earlier this AM...id take Branthwaite (Stones/Holgate vibe), Ferro+Dias (unlikely as they are Benficas starting CBs) Fernandes (high potential) and Hamez on a loan.

If anyone has any idea why Ruben Dias is rated higher than Ferro please let me know...they seem carbon copies to me...like a left/right clone.

Ferro (left) 6'3 and Ruben Dias 6'1 (right) are both big centre backs who are very good all rounders and both 22. Neither is super fast but not slow either and both seem strong positionally.

Gedson Fernandes seems a player similar in style to Manny Fernandes...all action centre mid who can tackle, pass, run etc

Branthwaite is the kid were supposedly bidding for.

....the Branthwaite links seem too strong to be false. He looks mobile for a big lad, £800k would seem low risk for a 17 year old. As you say, it’s a fruitful strategy buying youngsters from the lower leagues. I’d image Feeney and/or Gibson will be released if he comes in.

i would expect us to acquire another CB for first team consideration and Todibo appears the Zouma-type Brands has been looking for to partner Mina.
