Point was Koeman wasn't doing well when we appointed him he had steadied the ship at Saints after an AWFUL run, but was only appealing in Name only.

Silva was madness. He was 4th when we first showed interest, turned his head and then absolute freefall from there. No reason to appoint him whatsoever.
Think with Koeman they were blinded by his playing career he'd won the Copa over here and titles in Holland they probably watched the video of Soton coming back from two down to beat the RS a few times and thought they had a winner. Always a problem when those doing the hiring have no real clue about the game. But then at the time I has very hopeful...

An absolute Turkish warlord of a defender. He's my fave type of defender: beast. Starts for Turkey I think too with that Leicester guy. However, if the pro-military stuff Tosun did annoys you he's in the same camp.
Think if you still have family in Turkey,it's the wise line to take.

Pulls out loose change from pocket

Read that in a soviet accent - only added to the gravitas of it

I like the way people have gone from sneering at the idea that DCL is good to sneering at the idea of someone paying £50m for him.

You lot hate that he’s proven you wrong.
I'd love to be proven wrong, I still don't think he's good enough, I find it funny that people think he's become a world beater because he's scored a few tap ins in his last few games.

Exactly - 3 games he's scored in and 1 of those games they were literal tap ins from the defenders calamity.

Blokes got alot to do before he can ever be seen as what we need. We need another Lukaku level striker and DCL is absolutely miles off that.

So this morning we have:

INS
Rodriguez on loan (mirror)
Branthwaite £750k (multiple)
Gedson Fernandes (mail)
Ruben Dias + Ferro (mail)
Joe Roden (mail)
Gabriel Barbosa (mail)

OUTS
Tosun on loan to Palace (multiple)

Hopefully @Eggs will add some more detail and sizzle later on...

For me, the signings from the list I would like would be Ferro, Dias, Fernandes and Branthwaite.

Ferro and Dias are both very similar players at Benfica. Ferro is the left sided centre back and Dias is on the right.

Both 22, Dias has had almost global links to the top tier sides and 16 caps while Ferro has gone under the radar with no caps to his name. Im not quite sure why as I cant see the difference between them really, perhaps @BlueToff @Nymzee could enlighten me?

Seems strange that we are linked with Benficas starting two centre backs...never heard of anyone selling both in a Jan window but still exciting lol

Fernandes seems to have fallen out with his coach and is a world class talent...branthwaite of course has the feel of a Stones/Holgate type signing.

Id be very happy if we brought those 4 players in this window (as unlikely as it may be).

I’d take Ferro (he’s a left footer IIRC). Less popular = less cost.

I’d also go for Branthwaite as he’s got huge potential for less than 1m it’s a no brainier.

Then James on loan.

Just need a forward IMO and that’s as good as I’d have hoped on the ins.

It is you’re right, but he doesn’t seem overly bothered does he? The consensus seems to be that he remains ambitious and will continue to invest in the squad. Mistakes have been made by Moshiri no question, the biggest one appointing Steve Walsh and trusting him with his cash. But that hasn’t stopped him from attempting to remedy those mistakes and he’s still by all accounts, intent on investing in the squad.
You’ll always get a greater chance of success with this kind of owner than you will with the majority of other owners in this league who are not so generous with their cash!
For this month, January. “Long term investment in the squad won’t be affected”.
I just look at the hard facts of this organisation about where we are: struggling in the bottom half of the table (yet again under his ownership); financially a basket case.

They are - beyond all the pronostications about a great future under Ancelotti / a new stadium / Usmanov involvement - the scores on the doors.

If there’s one thing United are desperate for, it’s a young up and coming striker. It’s not like they have about 20 on the books currently or anything.
