Why?

I ask because I'm not sure we really have a choice.

Of course we have a choice, did Liverpool buy young up and coming players?

No, they bought players in their prime.

Theres loads of ways of doing it.

Im all for buying up and coming players, but currently we need ready to go players, to compliment the young players we already have.

The 24-26 age group should be our playground.
It depends, would you like the new Ronaldo / Rooney / Keane / Vieira / Nesta / Cannavaro...

If thats a yes then you need to sign them when young.

In centre midfield next season if we had Gbamin, Gomes, Davies, Camavinga for 2 positions that may be a little short but still would be a very interesting base for the short-mid term.

I think it should be looked at as a Kean type signing but looking at our current midfield (non injured) options hed walk into the side.

Yeah cos Kean is working out GREAT.

Sadly we are not them. The attraction has always been greater over there. Someone like Salah or Van Dijk would have options that would be better than us.

Yes of course, we arent shopping in the same market, but my point stands regarding their ages.
I just don't know that the players that age that are actually good enough will ever be choosing to come here. That leaves us with a bunch of guys like Gomes and Sidibe, who I like, but also don't expect to push us into the CL.

Yeah cos Kean is working out GREAT.

They were signing players from 2nd place and getting to champions league final stages.

We are currently sitting in 11th.

Clearly the 24-26 year olds who would join us arent on as high a level as those who would join them for world record fees...which we also cant pay.

Kean also is 19 and needs time to adjust just like world record u21 centre back De Ligt

I think Goaty is just looking for bad examples...

And thats were we differ.

Gomes and Sidibe have played for teams that pushed into the CL, they are players that are able.

They cant do it alone of course, we need more than we have and to break the CL we need players that can perform in 2021, not 2024.

I get yours and Zat model, buy young, improve them, sell them on, rinse and repeat and its a great idea, I used to do it in FM all the time.

But whilst all these young lads are maturing, we stink.

Now you will counter that we already stink, which is true, but my point is that with the right players, we can break the CL next year, rather than in 3.

The reality is that as soon as we do find a diamond, they will be stolen away before we can even reap the benefits of our work.

So give me a good example, a team that focused on 17 year olds from France and won something.

I thought we could break in to the CL this year. And in Koeman's second season. And in every Martinez season. It's clear to me that thinking we can do it every year without any type of build up is delusional.

For the record I'd prefer if we skipped the selling part and just had a good team for awhile. But it has to start somewhere. Gomes and Sidibe may have done it once but it is different in leagues that don't have the sizable upper class that the PL does and those were one offs at any rate.

We've spent however long it is since Moshiri got here trying to buy players who were immediately CL level and we've managed to get 3. Gueye, Digne and Richarlison. And Richarlison wasn't even in the age range you want.

I honestly would like to see how many English clubs that aren't top 6 have bought a 24-27 year old that came in and played at a CL level in the last 5 years. Are there enough of them to make an entire XI?

This is amazingly easy.

Ederson
Walker - VVD - Laporte - Digne
Gana - Kante
Rico - KDB - Mane
Vardy

I'm still of the option that Keane is our best defender, while he has the right partner, he needs someone with a bit of pace along with him, he and Zouma had a partnership that was starting to look very good towards the end of last season.

You clearly missed the part that said "not Big 6"

Im having the Liverpool players, Klopp finished 8th in his first season.

You can take the City players.

Anyway, be very interested in our transfer MO going forwards, im sure Ancelotti changes things slightly in terms of what type we go for, be very shocked if we buy a shed load of teenagers personally.

They were still "Big 6" even when they finished 8th just as Chelsea were when they got dragged down to 10th or whatever that one year. Those teams have a power to sign players we don't have.

I want to believe Ancelotti changes everything but I also was told Koeman would do so (I know it is different but we did think we were signing Mata and Witsel) and I was told Moshiri's money would do the same. We are kidding ourselves at this point.

I'm not saying teenagers necessarily. Just young enough that they can still get significantly better. Otherwise they most likely won't ever be good enough. They can be players that are already top flight players. These type of players exist. Leicester have a squad filled with them. Ajax do as well. Spurs were doing that at one point. Monaco too. It isn't easy but it is the choice we have to make.
