January Transfer Thread 2020

And thats were we differ.

Gomes and Sidibe have played for teams that pushed into the CL, they are players that are able.

They cant do it alone of course, we need more than we have and to break the CL we need players that can perform in 2021, not 2024.

I get yours and Zat model, buy young, improve them, sell them on, rinse and repeat and its a great idea, I used to do it in FM all the time.

But whilst all these young lads are maturing, we stink.

Now you will counter that we already stink, which is true, but my point is that with the right players, we can break the CL next year, rather than in 3.

The reality is that as soon as we do find a diamond, they will be stolen away before we can even reap the benefits of our work.

So give me a good example, a team that focused on 17 year olds from France and won something.
I thought we could break in to the CL this year. And in Koeman's second season. And in every Martinez season. It's clear to me that thinking we can do it every year without any type of build up is delusional.

For the record I'd prefer if we skipped the selling part and just had a good team for awhile. But it has to start somewhere. Gomes and Sidibe may have done it once but it is different in leagues that don't have the sizable upper class that the PL does and those were one offs at any rate.

We've spent however long it is since Moshiri got here trying to buy players who were immediately CL level and we've managed to get 3. Gueye, Digne and Richarlison. And Richarlison wasn't even in the age range you want.

I honestly would like to see how many English clubs that aren't top 6 have bought a 24-27 year old that came in and played at a CL level in the last 5 years. Are there enough of them to make an entire XI?

I think its fine to aim for 24-26 year olds.

However there will be a reason they arent performing at top sides.

The top sides always have a quality long term spine of the team...which is why a GK / CB / CM / CF are always the fixtures in the team.

If we have:

Pickford (25) Holgate (23) Richarlison (22) and possibly DCL (22)

Then thats something to build on. But theres no midfielder there.

In the next 'young' bracket down we have Davies (21) and Kean (19). No keeper and no centre back.

So, my view is that we need:

Keeper
Centre back
Midfielder

If we can bring in 3 young players there (and my view is we need 2 or 3 more for other positions) then at least we a strong spine with another spine coming through.

I dont think thats too much to ask.

If the reason is like Digne where he just is behind someone world class or like Gueye where he actually was playing well but the team was so terrible that it was hard to stand out, then yes obviously those are players to target. But trying to build a whole side of players that way is an almost impossible task with where we currently are. Unless we are ok with mid table every year.

No idea Zat, didnt follow Parma 30 years ago yano.

You like to google...im giving you an assignment which you can enjoy and reminisce over past world class players...

Pretty weird window so far, nothing happened at all yet anywhere.

Pretty much...shows how amazing Brands is to get Tosun out in a drought @davek lol

Think people need to be more realistic in this thread; we’re not gonna sign any of these £50m+ wonder kids.

Youre deliberately trying to ruin my day.

Not sure if there will be much in terms of movement due to the issues with FFP, rumours are that the accounts are showing 120m+ loss at the moment.

Not sure what sort of thing we will be fined, could be financially or be banned from Europe or points deduction.

Can't see it being points and I would be surprised if we make Europe this year.
So might get a fine which kinda defeats the object of overspending o_O

Haha points deduction ?what

....it’s hardly a ‘manic Monday’, indeed there’s no new links out there that I can see on the morning of 13th January;

- A number of outlets, including TalkSport report the Toffees are preparing a £25m bid for Gremio Forward, Everton Soares. The rumour increased on Saturday when Richarlison responded during an instagram exchange with his Brazilian teammate with the words: ‘we are waiting for you’.

- The East Anglican Times continue to report Ipswich are nearing a loan deal for Everton defender, Lewis Gibson, but the centre back is in the last 6 months of his contract and a new one needs to be agreed before the Toffees sanction a move for the 19 year old. Ipswich hope a deal is sorted sooner rather than later so Gibson can join a list of recent Everton loanees at Portman Road; Luke Garbutt is currently there following the footsteps of Conor Grant, Callum Connolly and Matty Pennington.

- SkySports repeat Everton interest in 17 year old Carlisle centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, whilst the Echo again reports Bayern Munich links with Toffees 18 year old Academy Forward, Anthony Gordon.

Stop listening to the Esk.

Anthony Gordon to Bayern ? Wow , that must be a bit of a morale boost to the youngster .
You know more than most about the youth sides Eggs , could this be a goer ?

....I very much doubt it, Matey. There seems an increasing trend of German clubs investing in the highest-profile young English players. Foreign clubs might have enquired but I can’t see us letting Gordon go at this stage.

Gibson would be a more likely candidate when his contract expires in the summer.
