January Transfer Thread 2020

Sunday told Ancelotti all he needed to know about our squad.
Spineless, gutless cowards the vast majority of them.

Whilst it was extremely disappointing performance, unless a manager sees significant character flaws, he should;dn;t be making a decision on a player's future on one game. Particularly one game where many of the players froze and, maybe, some were very tired 2nd half after a gruelling festive schedule.

I'm not trying to make excuses but I'd rather a more measured approach from the manager than the emotional, shoot from the hip approach you seem to be suggesting. We might end up in the very same situation you predict come August 2020 but I'd rather that be based on more evidence of these players under this regime rather than based on 1 performance. Not matter how poor that performance was.

I would keep
Pickford
Digne
Mina
Holgate
Gbammin
Gomes
Bernard
Ricarlison
Kean
DCL
The rest with no exceptions i would bin off
Only 5 possibly 6 of those should start our first game of next season

Pickford

NEW
Mina
NEW
Digne

Gbammin
Gomes
NEW
NEW

Ricarlison
NEW
If we get an upgrade on Gbammin /Gomes all the better
Davies, Kenny ?

They had a golden once in 25 yrs opportunity to win at Anfield.
Klopp put out a team expecting nay hoping to be beat
The last thing he wanted was another cup game.
the league is all that matters to him now.
He sacrificed the League cup ,wanted to sacrifice the FA cup and will sacrifice the CL to win the league
The cowards bottled it

I think you'll find Ancelotti will be very measured in his approach and we'll still cull the herd.

It will have to be a measured approach even if the manager wanted to get rid of half a dozen today.
We need players to put out a team on Saturday and he will be forced to play some players that he will want gone from the club because he has no alternative or very little.
We know it is difficult to sign good players in January and it is the window that gives us the best chance of moving players we don't want as clubs can get desperate as the window nears closing.

I’d take Marcos rojo, hard as nails left footed centre back.
Then we need some legs in midfield a cm and yet another attacking mid James Rodriguez if possible

Offload niasse, tosun, martina and schneiderlin (if we get any takers)

Rabiot talk again

Hes come out to say he wants to stay at Juve + the GM has as well.

Todibo from Barca looks like it might happen

Apparently had talks with Milan and now speaking with us amd 2 other prem sides.

Davies, Kenny ?
Sell
Not good enough for a team looking for top 4
Squad members maybe, who play in the early rounds of the cups against lower league opposition

Have to keep those 2 in the squad. Need the local voices and also for homegrown criteria...

Thats part of the problem Zat.
Sentiment and misplaced loyalty to players
I am all for local lads or HG players IF they are good enough
Those 2 are not.
Would you rather Aarons and Maddison or JJK and davies
Both sets are HG .
I know who I would rather have

Need to shift the >26 year olds in the current squad that aren't delivering and replace them with signings the manager trusts to deliver leadership and quality going forward.

The general transfer strategy should still be, in the main, to buy promising younger players (<25) who have a big upside and sell on value.

I agree though that buying young players only works if the experienced players lead and carry some of the weight. You saw how United did this in the 1990's when the likes of Neville, Beckham, Scholes emerged. They were brilliant but so where the experienced heads who remained during those 1st few seasons. To a degree we saw this 1st hand on Sunday with the performance of Lallana. In a team full of youngsters he took responsibility. That's what we need from our older, more experienced players. Think Delph could be a good one for this. Think others in the squad are probably not cut out to carry that responsibility
And yet Delph is one of the poorer performers week on week.
