For this saying the fee is too much. He was in the England squad as an attacking midfielder alongside Grelaish, Foden, Mount, Bellingham - how much do you think they’d go for on the open market?

Chelsea are bidding over 100 million for Fernandez, we’ve just sold a completely unproven academy product for 45 mill, this is the price for an international midfielder that’s in demand.

Which is why we can no longer shop in the English market, except for free agents and loans

Why does anyone think Gallagher would cost less than Gordon? More experienced, same age, capped by England and has better G/A.

I think we are after him as a Defensive AM behind Dom instead of an outright striker. Would add extra energy and protection when out of possession.

Not sure he would come here though tbh, even if Chelsea sign Enzo

Gallagher is a decent enough player but is our DoF aware of our priorities? Our midfield options are hardly ground-breaking but are we are crying out for at least two attackers and probably a full back as well.

Dyche played 442 at Burnley because it suited the players he had and we’ve assumed he’d do the same.

Could it be he’s looked at the centre backs we have available and the poor options out wide and concluded that with the right playmaker 352 is the way to go? In which case Gallagher plus one more centre forward option?

I’m trying to make it make sense.

How’s that working in a 442 formation though? Genuine question

We don't have any strikers

Couple of my friends are Palace season ticket holders and as I'm in London at the moment I joined them as a season ticket holder last season (not this season) mainly to regularly meet up with them and watch some football. Elise had some quality games and the centre halves were a massive improvement but Gallagher was comfortably their player of the season. He had one bad game at home all season. Aside from that he was superb in every game. He made the team tick, scored goals and his range of passing improved as the season went on and by the end he was the complete player. He starting off their press and helped the team win so much ball in the oppositions' half. He would be a game changer. Considering money has been spent on complete gash like Maupay, whilst £40 million is a lot, Gallagher is a fantastic player. I imagine Dyche could play him as the 1 behind the centre forward in a 4411. Tarkowski, Onana and Gallagher would be nice in the heart of the team.

People will focus on his questionable form for Chelsea this season but sometimes a player just doesn't fit. Different position but Lukaku never settled in at Chelsea yet he was a goal machine for us.

He might also prefer to be the top dog as opposed to one of ten centre mids constantly rotating.

Hes class, young high energy, international energy and scores goals

In a Chelsea setup...in a Palace setup he was class.

Dyche has also played 433.

Yes, but like most on here, not for £40m. There is a lot of discussion about what a player is “worth” but he’s not worth that to us because we don’t have that kind of dough to spend on a single player.

He is to us though to complete our midfield.

you'd imagine theyre aware of that, surely a couple of attackers are coming in in addition

A striker by themselves doesn’t necessarily improve us, it’s the service to them that ain’t there at the moment. It’s not as though Calvert Lewin is missing three or four huge chances per game and that’s the only thing wrong with the team. We barely make chances so an attacking midfielder could improve the output of all the other attacking players as well.
