January Transfer Window 2023

The reaction to it was telling.

He knows and the rest of them do on that board that a failure to get players in today means they'll face annihilation.

If that's what they want, that's what they'll get. What's happened so far is pretty small beer in terms of protests.

There'll be a riot at that ground, and I'm not exaggerating.
We all no what we needed coming in to January. We have left it to the last day that in itself is a joke. If they don’t get what we need in today they have excepted relegation and it’s hard because I love Everton but what’s the point the fans might as well give up like they have till we get owners who can run a football club.

Hopefully it's not just me being an optimist but seems like Sulemana and Gyokeres are planned on being done "early", leaves us to be able to do loans which don't take nearly as much time. If we can get those 2 on permanent deals, then I'd legitimately take Antonio on loan, Ayew on a free and maybe another foreign loan if we could. At that point depth is important too but getting those 2 in first will improve the squad, hopefully.

Depending on what we do today the hypostasis will be tested.

There is over 100 mill in revenue that came into the club since June in player sales. Fans arent stupid.

I agree it will be no country for anyone in our administration if there a tacit assent to our relegation - we've seen some stuff in the past but nothing like what we will see if we drop the ball today - anything below 3 attackers is dropping the ball. It will be carnage.

That Everton hierarchy are aware of the stakes, which is why I say that I'd never condemn any protest hereafter. They'd have earned any that come their way and in whatever manner it took shape.

They'll reap the whirlwind on this. They really need to pull out all the stops by close of business tonight.

It's a good point. Would you accept no signings if the board resigned tonight?

It's a tough one.
If they don't bring in at least three and our fans refuse to take action (and I don't mean 1,000 staying behind on the Gwladys) then we'll deserve what we get.

Dyche being appointed has bought them 5 days until Arsenal pump us. Then it HAS to change.

Hard to believe the future of the club rests on a few hours - but here we are.

Kudus was a loan initially

Again, you're sort of skirting over the point - I accept that there are considerations about managerial appointments, but strip that out of it for a minute.

We didn't have enough money to make any permanent signings, so we were stuck with trying to find players on loan (and loans with no obligations or silly fees involved) who would improve us early in the window. Danjuma fits the bill and we got gazumped, it happens. I'm genuinely struggling to think of another player who has been loaned out over the window who fits this bill.

If there have been mistakes made, let's call them out but I'm not seeing one in January given the circumstances they've been working under.

The managerial change only really comes into it with the Gordon deal as the two incidents overlap, so at that point it really does make for more sense to take a beat and see which direction the new boss wants to go in as there's suddenly a tiny bit of wiggle room in the budget to get more than a loan in.
Yes, he was. It fell through. Everton then offered money late in the August window, as Kudus had done what Gordon has done last week and not gone to training. It wasn't enough and Ajax wouldn't budge.

It's not you or me that have to find these players that fit those criteria, mate. It's Kevin Thelwell and the recruitment team. They are paid big wages to do that. Not you or I. Them.

They identified Danjuma. They almost got him. The fact they didn't get that deal done when he was wearing an Everton training kit for half a day over the weekend reflects badly on Thelwell, btw. It's slack. Even if the lad and his agent acted like divs.

Four months the recruitment team had (and really they had longer, btw) to find targets and work on deals ready to go in January. They had the luxury of a World Cup break. Yes, having to do loans isn't easy, I appreciate it, but the areas of need were clear. And you know what, if it proved that loans were difficult, then make a call and spend £3-4m in a downpayment or on a fee for a player to get somebody in that we needed, and then look at what happens later in the window with potential sales.

There's no skirting around the point here. Clubs that aren't run like Sunday League teams can make things happen.

I am not suggesting that the last week or so hasn't made their jobs harder, as it very much has. But the extremes that people are going to to find excuses are very funny.

Needed forward reinforcements. Football restarted 26th December. 34 days.

Since then the teams who have changed managers in the season (Bournemouth, Wolves, Southampton, Brighton) have made a total of 16+ signings in January.
