January Transfer Window 2023

Yes, he was. It fell through. Everton then offered money late in the August window, as Kudus had done what Gordon has done last week and not gone to training. It wasn't enough and Ajax wouldn't budge.

It's not you or me that have to find these players that fit those criteria, mate. It's Kevin Thelwell and the recruitment team. They are paid big wages to do that. Not you or I. Them.

They identified Danjuma. They almost got him. The fact they didn't get that deal done when he was wearing an Everton training kit for half a day over the weekend reflects badly on Thelwell, btw. It's slack. Even if the lad and his agent acted like divs.

Four months the recruitment team had (and really they had longer, btw) to find targets and work on deals ready to go in January. They had the luxury of a World Cup break. Yes, having to do loans isn't easy, I appreciate it, but the areas of need were clear. And you know what, if it proved that loans were difficult, then make a call and spend £3-4m in a downpayment or on a fee for a player to get somebody in that we needed, and then look at what happens later in the window with potential sales.

There's no skirting around the point here. Clubs that aren't run like Sunday League teams can make things happen.

I am not suggesting that the last week or so hasn't made their jobs harder, as it very much has. But the extremes that people are going to to find excuses are very funny.
I genuinely don't see the well-known fact that we are under the tightest financial restrictions in the league as an excuse which is particularly outlandish mate.

I'm not advocating 'going with what we've got' but currently the names linked have been totally uninspiring.

There's the prospect/gamble of spending 30 to 50 million today on two or three totally unproven, unknown, un heard of players in an attempt to get us out this mess. But it all screams pure desperation.

I know we all want better options, but I'm not seeing any names that improve this squad- they will only put another 50 million pound hole in our books.
If it were an option of Ayew on a free and/or the lad from Genk, I would rather we gave kids a chance.

Rennes paid a few bon for Sulemana didn't they?

Anyone know why he hasn't played a lot for them and why they're receptive to letting him go?
Injuries, stop-start beginning to his time there, exceptional competition for places in those positions, relative youth compared to the other options (Doku aside).

He's got so much talent and potential. Could be an amazing signing. Probably go to Southampton though.

Anyone on Flight Tracker yet?

….all quiet on the Rennes front;

They have known all along that that is the case. That is the remit. The job is tough. But they are being paid to do their jobs and work within that remit.

Hence, there's zero, zero excuses for not having some business done early in the window.

Nobody is expecting a £45m signing to have been through the door.

Think of it this way - we are weaker then we started the window - when we were desperate for attacking options.
That's true. But if we signed this lad from Rennes and a right back. And it costs us 35 million. Does that make us stronger or just the same level before we sold Gordon?

Are any of them operating under the same financial restrictions as us?

Wolves have financial troubles but are taking a punt on staying in the league.

Additionally most are loans or low fees (Orsic 6mill for eg, Cunha loan).

Danjuma is the only one we've physically had at the club on loan and it fell through.
