I think if the penny hasn't dropped now for people that we are hurtling to the Championship, it should have.

Honestly, after this farce of a month, it's fully merited. The club needs to be burned down and rebuilt from the ashes. That could take quite some time, however. Maybe when it's done we'll hear news of a new signing.

And why was the buy-out clause so low? Why had he already fallen out of favour in Germany? Why did nothing happen for him at Leicester?

He ran his contract down and left on a free for a fresh challenge abroad. But he wanted to keep his option open for a return here so insisted on a low release clause which Leverkausen agreed to. It certainly wasn’t a case of him being worth only 1.7m because he’s cr@p like you’re suggesting.
