We hold on too long, Newcastle move to another target. We decide to keep the player, for fear of being "weaker and short", he either doesn't play at all or massively phones it in, all the while losing a massive chunk of value so when we come to sell him post-relegation we probably get £15m.

As with the Richarlison deal, we held absolutely none of the cards. Through years of sheer ineptitude we have worked our way into a uniquely dreadful bargaining position. We can puff our chests out and try our luck if we like, but not a chance that would have worked out in any way positively for us.

Good, move on Newcaslte.....we're not caught short.

I dont agree with that, we didnt have to sell Gordon out of financial necessity.

"Good Ebening Jim,

I want to let all the Evertonians know that we tried everything to improve the squad.

I have listened and stepped back from decisions on players and manager, this is and always has been the responsibility of the Chairman and board.

I tasked them with keeping us up Jim.

I am fully funding the stadium and looking for partners for future investment, I just want to reassure all the evertonians about that.

I have every faith in Sean Dyche and his staff to get the best out of the squad.

We need the fans behind us, if they are our only signing then we have everything we need"

Shocking if true.

He stopped playing for us beforehand, god knows what he'd do after refusing to train.

If we went down and his value has shrunk due to not getting a game we only hurt ourselves in the long term.

I hear this all the time - i dont accept it - when do we sell our players and improve, we've all been conditioned into accepting it as a necessity and people are afraid if we dont - its rubbish. We need a backbone.

Sanctioning Gordons deal ws stupid, i didnt say letting him go was stupid - given the context - its unfortunate - but sanctioning it leaving ourselves short was unnecessary and stupid.

Ill concede my point to anyone arguing the opposite, who can point to us at the moment and say we have improved and are stregthed because of it and arent caught short.
