We should do things the Ajax way buy young footballers cheap then use them for a few years and sell them on. Because our current way of doing transfer hadn’t exactly worked very well.
The system they use works perfectly in countries like Holland and France as they will never be elite leagues. Clubs like Ajax and Lille have the time and patience to Nurture those kids and bring out there full potential, although it doesn't always pay off there is always more reward then risk to those clubs cos of the leagues they play in.
The premiership is a different kettle of fish, you're expected to hit the ground running straight away. There is no Time/ Patience to nurture these players so they just waste away in overloaded squads with then no re-sale value, Unless your one of the big 6.

Teams like Saints have been trying this approach for years and they have found plenty of talent in that time ( As well as there youth system ) but how much has it really benefitted them. I mean there always stuck around us.
Brighton seem to have jumped on the wagon in more recent years, and it isn't doing to badly for them.

Maybe this system was looked at when bringing Thelwell in. I mean he had been working in the 'Red Bull' Franchise, Which prides itself on this approach.
( But then you look at 'Onana' and he was thrown straight into the deep end the sec he got through he door.....

The big problem there mate is the Ajax youth model works, ours doesn't. We have produced average/below average players only for ever. Rooney excepted cos anyone who knows the slightest about football knows he was a one off. Hibbert, Davies, Osman and maybe Gordon. Can't think of many others

Think that's a bit harsh to be honest.

You can only develop players to a point, after that, there's an almost infinite combination of factors that decide whether a player goes on to achieve their full potential, including but not limited to:

Managers in charge
Players in the squad
Opportunities
Injuries
Mentality
Money (greed)
Lifestyle
Media
Transfers
Finances
Politics
Friends (and hangers on)
Relationships
Genetics
Fans
Luck

We have produced more than our fair share of talented prospects. Some have worked out, some haven't.

I'm sure we all went to school with people who made it and by and large, with the very odd exception, those who made it will not have been the best players in the school or area at the time, but those who had that bit of luck combined with desire to keep going. And that's the same at academy level. We all remember the Milligan's, Schumachers', Eatons', Hills', Kissock's, Baxter's, Ledson's, Walsh's, Dowell's, Green's, Small's, etc who were the best of a bunch, but it's the Hibberts', Davies', Kenny's, etc who end up getting more game time.

It's a brutal system, and the lads who come through are the lucky ones, that they arrived at the right time, with the right skill set, for the right position, with the right manager who saw something and believed in them.

Unfortunately, the game is moving away from the vast array of individual players and coaching seems to be creating clone after clone of the same type of players up and down the country, the athletic type who is fit and slim and of a certain stature, not too big, not too small, tidy on the ball but nothing unique. Not just here, but up and down the country. It makes it much harder to stand out on your own.

I've said it before on different matters, but it applies to this as well. The game is gone. Its the most boring and the most corrupt its ever been.

Yeh, good luck trying that in the PL

If you remove the word "cheap" then that should be the plan.

Patterson and Onana werent "cheap" but look like good investments.

We need to be settled into mid table and then look at investing in young players. Not only like those two but also like Branthwaite. Ive been reading that were trying for Chris Rigg 15 from Sunderland whose England u16 captain £2.5mil in summer (RS favourites).

Thats where Lampard should earn his coin.

If we sold Onana in a season or two for £60mil or Patterson for £30mil and used the funds to sign 4 top young players then the strategy could make sense.

But the team needs to be stable and not hovering near the bottom

At the moment we just need to build a team.

Barkley and rodwell. They both were talented and good players but had their head turn by the media and money, then lost the hunger once they moved on. It is harder for us now like Ajax best team in there county can cherry pick talent, so can Chelsea, Man U and now Man City here.

No harm in asking.
Sam is terribly damaged buy his England cock up.!!!
The fact no owner has given him £300million war chest.

Sam needs the chance of redemption for himself, family, friends , football family.
Hes never been understood.Hes never played the crap football everyone spouts.
Pep went long hoof when Benzimar sorted City out Carlo.
Fans forget the 15/20min crap dished up by teams chasing a game .Forgt beautifull game, anyway we can get a point or three.

Fans are fickle, brain dead in general.

Sam for me.
All that went before, come after, exept Carlo.
Crap!!!
So youll take the Championship for 17years , just like Leeds.
Thats brain dead.!!!

Dont worry, ive just read Martinez is sniffing around.
Bobby remained in Quatar to meet Moshiri.
Jones, journalist saying manybEvrrton fans want Bobby back.
Thats brain dead to.
Sooo many Toofees need to wake up, smell the coffee. We are heading for the championship.
Reason, iam seeing what other clubs are doing, already done.
We are naiked on one of three to go down unless something pretty radicle is done for 23 games.
Bit like Kane being allowed to take the Penalty.
His team mate , Lloris.
Dixies record if he scored , all time record.
Pressure like no other.

Massive oversight, managerial cock up.

Rashford should have been on, should have took the penalty.
Like Frank making huge bad calls.
Be Martinez soon, so be carefull what you wish for.

Off.

You can't have an 'Ajax' model unless you are literally Ajax. Their whole model revolves around their name making their players worth twice as much as they should be.

I think Newcastle are the mostly likely for Rigg although the RS do love giving out brown envelopes do you couldn’t rule them out.

I believe the biggest thing people are ignoring is league difficulty. You can get away with what Ajax and Salzburg etc. so because their domestic leagues are so bad they’re never in danger. You just can’t do it in the PL.

Agree with that fact as well. But even other clubs in those leagues couldn't hope to replicate either of those 2. Ajax with their reputation of being the club and Salzburg with their RB scouting infrastructure/handouts. That paired with the fact they get to play in europe every single season means you can't just copy them in an actual competitive league.

That's without even getting into work permits
