Thought he looked brilliant at Dortmund.

On loan im not sure if theres another who we could bring in who has the same upside in terms of goals from wide areas.

All with the caveat that his 'issues' are resolved.

He was largely excellent at Dortmund, but that was a proper football club, with a proper football environment, with proper education and technical/tactical coaching. Not the clownshow that United has been for years, were they pamper 20 year old kids, shove +£300k a week in their pockets once they've "made it" and leave them to be more about nights out at The Ivy and being Insta famous than developing them as players from one manager to the next. Huge talent (when he was interested) but could easy go the way of Lingard if he isn't careful.

This is probably the most important transfer window the club have had in years. They need to get it 100% right.

you’re not wrong but genuinely we , and I include myself in this , seem to say the same thing almost every window and invariably we disappoint.

I think we have done well at getting rid of the big earners/hangers on. Tosun, Richy, Gomes, now Mina. We have to do better business in the future and ensure exceptional players are on such wages, not poor ones.

I suppose 'done well' is a point of view. Tosun cost £16-18m and walked on a free, Mina £20-25m probably walk on a free, Dacs £20-25m and could be leaving on a free too. I've lost count of the number of players we've paid big bucks for and didn't get a single penny back on. Astonishingly bad business.

I don't believe it is as simple as that Dave.... I wish it was.

If you are trying to bring in a player that is not wanted at his current club then maybe it is that simple.
If you are trying to sign a player that his club doesn't want to sell because he is important or because he is a player that his club feels is continuing to rise in value then it becomes much more difficult. Kudus would be an example .

Unless you agree to pay silly money then I think a lot of deals will happen nearer the close of the window for the better players.

There is no doubt that our transfer activity will also depend on players leaving. We know Rondon is gone and we are lead to believe that Keane, Kean, Mina and Doucoure may leave and they certainly would create space in the payroll and squad.

The club have had since before the WC to get things in motion on both outgoings and incomings.

Yes, we know that players dont just get asked to leave / arrive and that's all there is to it. But our position is precarious, to say the very least. Everyone around Lampard knew from August when Sick Note was off on his next extended stay in the treatment room we had to get a replacement striker in.

There really is no excuse for Everton to sleepwalk through the whole of January when we'll lose for sure another handful of games if we have to rely on Maupay up front.

Oh it certainly is! Off the top of my head there's £20m Walcott in there, £25-30m Bolaise, £45m Siggurdson, £16m Niasse and Delph n Besic at £8m a pop each on the lower end too. And probably half a dozen more I've forgot about. I don't know what's more criminal: that we paid big bucks for those plodders or we got virtually nothing back on them. Such a waste of money.
