January Transfer Window 2023

That's fine honestly. Get two or three good years and sell at a profit.
Aye, speculate to accumulate. If we could get him for a decent price and make a good few years out of him before selling on for a profit, I'd be content with that.

We're going to have to build over years if we ever wish to succeed. The concern, however, is that his WC will increase interest in him, which will push up his value.

This increases the risk and decreases the likelihood of making a decent profit further down the line.

Players actually can have principles and be honest acting.

If Kudus had an agreement with us before the move was scuppered, he may well like to honour that if the opportunity arises again.

Things have moved on though, and if a permanent transfer is in the offing for him, I'd expect longer-term he'd want something else.

If Ajax were looking to loan only, then I'd say we'd be in with more than a chance.

I am slightly concerned about Kudus seeing us as a stepping stone. Even his initial comments before the WC and his good start to ther season were then we are a good project. Does he already see himself as bigger than us? He certainly has that swag
Possibly slightly early to have concerns about that sort of thing.

The world corruption cup was a nice break from premier corruption league - but now I've forgotten why we were rubbish - why did we lose to Bournemouth twice in a row again ? It can't of just been missing Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
A combination of poor mistakes bad luck and horrendous refereeing. In the cup game we conceded 4 but the first one was a deflected looping shot, the second and third came when our defenders slipped over.

As for the league game Pickford plays pat-a-cake with a chest high shot for a tap in and the second is when Tarkowski is lying in the 6 yard box with a head injury yet the game is allowed to continue by the honest and above board professional Craig Pawson who watches as the goalscorer stands over the prone Everton player to head in from a yard out.

So the scorelines were extremely flattering I would say even if we carried little threat.

It's so frustrating seeing other clubs having deals lined up and ready for new signings to come in on January 1st. I can see the next few weeks panning out like this,,,
Those in power at Everton seem to think the transfer window opening means you start having a look round for who might be available ahead of January 31st, ready for an 11pm scramble and self-congratulatory garbage on the website on February 1st telling everyone how hard we worked to bring in new faces, remembering to include key quotes about a 'personal phone call from Frank Lampard' and 'intense negotiations by the chairman, who was at Finch Farm until the early hours.'

This will be followed a day later with an interview with said player (who can't believe his luck that Everton have given him a 5 year deal on £120k a week), who reads from an autocue 'I was persuaded to sign when the chairman told me about how this is the people's club, he made me want to be part of this project. Oh, er, and, someone called Fred Limpard called and said he loved me.'

The Athletic journos will be given a few leaks from 'a source' who will tell them Everton have been working on this signing for 3 years. In fact, an Everton scout watched him when he took his first steps. They'll publish some tables and a graph showing he can run and occasionally has a shot on target, thus making him 'the final piece in the jigsaw.'

Meanwhile, another 5 or so league games have passed with our impotent forward line and we squander more points and in the midst of (another) relegation battle.

How do you know that we haven't? I'm not saying we have, yet recently and more so under Thelwell we've been quite coy when it comes to signings.

I get the concern, and I understand the cynicism. In fact, we may buy late or we may not even buy at all, but (a big but) there's no talk of that being likely.

We only improve by signing players who see us as a stepping stone.

The alternatives are the Maupays of the world whose career has peaked at Everton.

I’d be concerned if we were signing players who are happy to be scrapping away at the bottom of the table.

This is 100% exactly what our entire model should be, anything else is unfathomable. We're not an elite level club who can sign anyone we want nor a club who can keep elite talent should we have any, so this very approach is exactly what we should be doing for continual improvement: recruit well, develop players, sell high, reinvest well, repeat. The likes of Leics, Brighton, Brentford et al have done it brilliantly for years whilst we are miles behind. They embrace it and see it as a positive to do it, we don't.

We probably are the best team in the league at letting players run their contracts down and walk away for nothing.

Don’t agree
Pienaar arteta Patterson Pickford etc didn’t see us as stepping stone
I just think that kudus a bit of attitude/ego. Agreed, it’s not alwats a bad thing but it just raises eyebrows
