Why are you concerned about this? It’s exactly what a club in our position should be doing, signing players with big potential and ambition that we can move on for a profit in the future. Signing players on a downward trajectory who are just happy to hang around for 5 years picking up a wage is exactly how you end up in the financial mess we’re currently in.

It sort of goes for managers too. Ancelotti left us in a much better position than every other manager. We messed that security up, with the board dallying and the manager performing badly. A bit like when Moyes left, we were left in a good situation. I'm not saying either were perfect, but I'd take that over someone being sacked and we are in the bottom 3.

And they are our options really. With players and managers. Very few are staying here long term. So it's on what basis they leave.

I'd rather lose them for big fees like Lukaku, Stones, Richarlison etc than paying people to stay.

I could go on here and rant more, but we need to become better at selling. Richarlison should have gone earlier, DCL should have gone and Gordon should have gone last summer. I love all 3 of them, but there can be no sentimentality in business. Unfortunately we have a chairman who is all sentimentality and no business.

It's funny as if we started acting in a more clinical way, we would probably see improvements quite quickly. I think people would be quite surprised really.

It looks as though the Ruben Vinagre loan will be cut short. It will leave us with no left back cover. Godfrey could do the job, bot he’s not back yet.

This signing always felt incongruous. We were never spending £20m on a back up left back.

All very fair, but I think the option was for 8 million.

Do you guys just pull up the Wikipedia and look at the two numbers to decide who can and can't score goals?

Interestingly I wonder if Guirassi was linked for that basis. With all the sub appearances he had around 3000 minutes in the previous 2 seasons, and scored 19 goals. 3000 minutes is around what a first time striker will play. So effectively he had 19 goals in a seasons worth of minutes. But when you look at a simple goals to game metric it looks less impressive.

I really don’t see that Ancelotti left us in a better position. Im not blaming him either, because he over performed with what he had.
The squad was rank and still had many players who should have left a long time ago. FFP caught up and is still having a big influence on our recruitment.

Hence the links to more attacking left backs

Can’t win. If all three where sold then there would of been protests because we have sold our three best players.

Agreed but with a caveat.

If you were to knock up a list of your best 11 players I suspect you'd easily be able to put down 8 players. Keeping those players while adding 3 more could turn us into a very good team overnight.

Ive left DCL off due to his injuries but heres mine:

Pickford
Mykolenko
Coady
Tarkowski
Patterson
Onana
Iwobi
Gordon

If we could hold onto all of these for 5 seasons while attracting the likes of Kudus and others in that age bracket...

...i suspect we'd see superior performances from our existing group.

Yes. He added to the deadwood in the squad by bringing in Allan and Doucoure for £20m+ too. I don’t get the love in for Ancelotti at all, considering he was here 18 months and achieved absolutely nothing. I have as much fondness for him as an Everton manager as Sam Allardyce.

Looking at Ben Brereton Diaz again apparently. I wonder what fee Blackburn would accept for the last six months of his contract? They know we’re desperate. They are also in a promotion battle.l
Players who can go on a free to more attractive clubs in six months and pocket any would-be transfer fee for themselves are not ruining their big summer move by coming here for a relegation scrap which could go either way.

We got some good results with ancellotti before it fell off a cliff. Have to say though, the football under him was some of the worst I’ve seen. Really boring stuff

Who knows. I am not convinved on Diaz, he knows where the net is and is a big powerful lad but I would be concerned about his pace for the EPL.

It wasn’t scintillating, I agree. But it was never so bad that we were averaging three shots on target every three games. I’ve been watching Everton for a long time, and I think our performance this season has been the worst.

We’ve never had such negative tactics before. It’s so negative that the players don’t know how to operate in the opposition half.

The way it fell off a cliff was truly alarming and cannot be ignored. His reign also gave me the most embarrassing day in the club’s history in my view, the humiliation against Liverpool’s F team.
