January Transfer Window 2023

Anyone who was pinning their hopes on this transfer window were living on cloud 9. We wasted any money we had on Maupay, McNeil, Onana and Garner. All who are of no help to us at all. The board and management team have blown it big time. Again. It’s increasingly probable that this is the season we run out of road.

Simms will never be a Prem forward, just doesn’t have the attributes. Still he’s probably a better option than Cannon, so it’s worth recalling him.

Lampard still talking up Dom though is a joke tbh. I’ve never known a club put so much faith in such an underwhelming injury prone player who has to have the ball on an absolute plate to score a goal.
In the greatest respect… how do you know?

Latest news coming out of the club is simply horrifying.

Everybody knows we need a proven striker brought in at a minimum to put up a fight against relegation. Arguably a good winger too.

The club appear hesitant to tie Pickford down to a new deal and looks like he's the next to be cashed in.

Now we're considering making Ellis Simms our Richarlison replacement.

Frightening. We'll be in League One entering the new ground.

One mistake is going like for like. For example say, signing a player in similar vein to Dominic Calvert-Lewin? Why? You need different options. Target man tactics isn’t working, use a forward with pace to play off the shoulder and press the opposition back.

As for creativity, we haven’t even replaced James or Sigurddson mate. And Richarlison.

And now we are recalling a player who couldn’t get a chance when we were a handful of games into a season and having play Gordon up there.

There’s no foresight here. No sense of contingency or tact. It’s all scattergun resulting in gaping flaws year on year having to be amended or delayed to be fixed a following transfer window.
You can add Digne to that list too. I'm not disputing any of that btw - fully agree; as I said, we've replaced it with utter dross.

The maddest thing is all we need is some big donkey up front and that’d improve us, it’s not like we’re asking for much. Take Chris Wood for example, he’s crap but if we had him now we’d be miles better off. We’re trying to play the exact same way with Maupay that we would’ve with Calvert Lewin, it’s lunacy of the highest order.

I backed signing Maupay in the summer becuase I thought he’d be able to offer something different mostly off the bench or as a rotation, not as a like for like replacement for Calvert Lewin, that was never in a million years gonna work, what has the manager got to be thinking honestly?

Looks like recalling Simms is cover as he isn't expecting a forward in early in the window. In one sense it's the right move he's more of a number nine than Maupay but very questionable if he is ready. In the other its worrying they aren't expecting to bring in a more experienced striker unless it's a last minute loan.

Maybe we are hoping to sell Keane and won't be able to use that wiggle room until later in the window who knows it's worrying how badly run this club is.

If we’re relying on the revenue based off of selling Michael Keane I fear that we should pack it all in and liquidate.

We could sell Keane, Mina, Davies and Doucoure in January and only make about £15m from it because they’re all crap and out of contract.

If we truly are sell to buy, someone has to want to buy what we’re selling and no one is gonna want to buy a crap player on £100k who can’t get into quite easily the consistently worst PL team of the last 5 years not to be relegated.

We were on the brink of signing Kudus in August, Rondon has left the club, Moise Kean is going to Juventus

We have money - we just don't have a clue how to spend it
We were on the brink of bringing him in on loan. I reckon that chance has passed now though.

And we’ve just recalled Ellis Simms apparently. Hardly smacks of a club flush with cash.
