We don't need top forwards. We need better than terrible ones (Maupay), ones that you would bank on scoring 7-8 goals in the remaining 20 fixtures if they play every game. Top forwards join top clubs, and we're crap.

We spent £30m on Maupay and McNeil in the summer, what makes you confident we can spend the same amount on better players in Jan?

I want Kevin Thelwell's job. He's just had four months off, and appears in no rush to get back to work, if he's ever done much work here in the first place. Doesn't take much effort to email your old colleagues for Coady, or get in touch with relegated Burnley to take a Championship winger for a Premier League price.

Never said I am confident. In fact, I don't at all believe we will, but we should. The example you provided is exactly why we won't, as there is zero imagination in our transfer policy. Most other clubs would be able to do it, however.

On Thelwell and Lampard not being prepared for me. It is a very big world, there would have been a much more appropriate back up to Dominic Calvert-Lewin than Neal Maupay that would have been in price range, loan range. Absolutely scandalous, as we all said at the time.

I think Maupay is garbage, one of the worst i've seen in a blue shirt, but he's also not a target man and I do feel for him a little bit.

thing is though while Lampard signs off on deals it's not his job to be scouting players - or have the scouting system in place - or to have deals lined up. So I have sympathy there.

I have sympathy with Thelwell too, he's had a lot to do, but there were clear areas of need in the summer. I said at the time, and stand by, that in fairness we had tons of areas of need, but to not get the attacking signings required is pure incompetence.

We'd have to wait on it which probably means it only happening late in the window.

IMO we have to move on and target other players. If there's still an option to sign him later in the window, great.

Hes a young lad and he might well turn out to become a good player, but yes, not really what we need at this moment.

That’s a bit of a dumb metric saying how much we paid for players. Would mean the whole time Barcelona lined up with Messi he added £0 to their front line, surely what matters is their value now and Gordon and a fit Dominic Calvert-Lewin definitely combine to be worth more than 3m without even talking about anyone else.

That’s dumb and you mention messi and
Barcelona. It was well known how good messi was going to be at a very young age, even if he was Gordon/DCL level, he would have broke into that team alongside some very expensive world class players.

Gordon who has had 1 season in the prem and shown decent promise, is playing alongside gray at 1.7mil, rondon on a free, maupay at 12mil Townsend on free if he comes back. And DCL has had 2 good season out of 7 for Everton

They won’t let him go unless they bring someone in, and with the gakpo deal dying, you wonder who there back up plan is.

Is elanga the best we can do though?

Though I’m sure he’s talented he ain’t the finished article - Not sure we need young, developing players at this stage - we’ve got a few of them ourselves already, who he will just push out the queue for minutes.
