The other argument for that is the books are easier to balance if the players are more valuable, of which Pickford is valuable now, come May he may have a severe drop in his value as we enter the Championship.
Without his saves towards the end of last season, we would be in the championship now. His price may take a bit of a dip, but there will be plenty of interest, so I expect his price wont be too different either way.

Plus come the summer he will only have 12 months left so the value will be plummeting even if we stay up- if the contract isn't getting renewed we need to start considering our options now. The ideal solution would be to agree a summer move with Spurs or United or whoever, they can proceed with Lloris or De Gea til the end of the season then transition over then, and we can spend the money now knowing it's coming in the summer.

This is yet again a failure on what may be the biggest explanation for our current state, poor management of sell on's. How the club did not factor or leverage Pickford in the summer (or the one prior after a strong euro), when relegation was still on the table, his contract length and his improved form as he entered his prime is just incredibly poor asset management. A mistake that falls in the same line as Digne, Richarlison and even Rom being sold at not peak value and a lack of capitalization on Gordon and DCL that realistically should have been moved on already. Between those errors your talking about possibly 100 million lost that could have been reinvested.

Now we are stuck with no good choices. Keep Pickford and his value is cut in half by a possible drop. If we stay up the lack of years on his deal makes him likely moved at best for what he was garnered for from Sunderland. And if we sell now a new GK is thrown in the flames of a relegation scrap. That's a lot of caveats that could have easily been avoided.

I don’t really understand the situation with Pickford, for six months the talk has been he’s close to renewing a contract that would take off the pressure to sell, yet nothing was signed. Was it the club or the player stalling?

I sometimes wonder what it’s like to support a different club, logging on to their team’s forum on a work break to check their transfer thread for any updates, and actually read about progress being done, a signing on the verge of being completed, or god forbid seeing a new player thread.

Hope springs eternal.

Until the first few errors
I’m a Pickford fan but he’s defo more error prone than lloris
Imo he’d end up on the bench
I’m not sure he is and I think they are fairly equal on mistakes leading to goals over the last few years. (Both being too or close to top of the table for it)

The issue Pickford has and the reason they will get on his back, is because he makes himself high profile with them, and gets suckered in to trying to wind fans up like vs Newcastle and Liverpool and it backfiring. They won’t like his character as it can come across quite cocky.

our goal gets peppered more than theirs so more opportunity for mistakes. Pickford is definitely better
