They spend loads of money and are desperate for a centre back. And regardless of what state they are currently in they are still a massive name and draw to players.
Him and Martinez would actually make a decent pairing tbf, he is exactly the type ten Hag would want to play his Ajax way.

The way they’d get back to the top is buying players like Branthwaite though. The lad is not just top class but seems an honest, down to earth hard worker. If Ratcliffe and his people want to change the culture it’s the sort of investment they should be making.
I agree with you but I think any young player should think very carefully about going to Utd at the moment, when you look at the number of young players' careers that have hit the rocks there

I think young players going to/staying at any of these big teams that are in “transition” is a disaster for them, unless they are ultra elite. Constantly swapping and changing managers, teammates, formations.

Branthwaite has looked big and strong and decent since he arrived, but his loan and careful introduction into our 1st team has been perfection. He is un-droppable. Couple of years ago you’d have thought Colwill would be the one to have; played about 18 average games at Brighton and looked truly atrocious playing out of position for Chelsea yesterday. Nightmare.

The lads and their agents just need more patience. Especially CBs who can play at the very top for longer.

I think Colwill + Branthwaite would be perfect together and likely England's starting centre backs before long...

...if Colwill was right footed!
