To be fair, £40m was far too cheap for Maddison considering Grealish and Rice went for £100m each
I agree and that’s why people trying to name one transfer and saying that sets the price are barking up the wrong tree it just doesn’t work that way and it never has.

That is true. I read on here the other day caicedo went for £100m so onana should be around the same. Nothing to do with caicedo going for almost double what he was worth then.

Maddisons value was fair imo, he could be quite inconsistent at times, Grealish was a release clause and I don't think anyone thought he was worth £100m and Rice is good but I'm not sure if he worth £100m.

Market dictates - in both instances. As crazy as it seems in hindsight, I don't think there was a massive queue for Maddison. Rice had City sniffing and Chelsea had also set a precedent with Enzo and so on.

I always look for the a comparison in the current market.

This is Moises Caicedo.
Signed for 4.5 mil loaned out in Belgium for a season.
O
Then one full season with Brighton ( not even Champions lge or Europe ) & he's sold for £115 mil.
The trajectory looks exactly the same.

I believe we have had Top Dollar for most of our wanted talent recently, so I'm pretty confident the club would quote this sort of price to any suiters.

Of course you have to have clubs willing to pay this sort of money , I'm sure there wouldn't be a problem.

He could become the best centre back in world football.

He's English and on a long term deal.

Defensive midfield market changed with Rice and Caicedo and the centre back market should change with Branthwaite.

I believe his old side have a 10% sell on fee.

£125mil and a 20% sell on fee. Even then id prefer we hold onto him for 3 more seasons.

Zat says 125m or nothing, plus 20% sell on.

But for me around De Ligt.

Agree, but most on that list are fully capped internationals whereas Branthwaite isn't atm. Even a few caps would make a huge difference to the valuation but at the moment it's nada.
