Also under Ancelotti he looked like he was worth every penny of that.

Bit of a myth imo. He was making errors under ancelotti. Its just ancelotti wasnt stupid and sussed that the lack of quality meant he couldnt expose this team and defence. So he parked the bus and protected them. Even holgate looked half decent under ancelotti because he strung 4 centre halves along the back and told them not to move. The negative side of that was we had the likes of burnley and fulham coming to Goodison and looking like Barcelona as we just gave them most of the pitch.

The only position I back myself to readily spot a proper footballer is centre half.

For years I've said this lad will be a top player.

John Stones level.

Maybe, I loved the way he tried to dominate whatever 1v1's he had. Brave, calm and on the front foot most of the time. Just hope we allow him to develop, and not vent our frustrations of the current t regime and situations at the lad if/when he makes an error.

fair point. but he did look like a confident ball carrying center half who could play with the ball at his feet.

That was the sort of business we needed to be doing two or three times a year, in addition to everything else. If we had bricked all the rest except one, we still come out ahead financially. Either we end up with a long-term starter and dodge a big transfer fee, or we sell on and have the resources to pay the transfer fee. That more than covers the comparative peanuts spent to find the diamond in the rough.

It turned out Moshiri is a lot like the stereotypical American NFL/NBA franchise owner. Can't see past this season, wants results now, can't refrain from meddling. That doesn't work. What does work is more or less what John W. Henry did with the Boston Red Sox: hire good people and trust them to do their jobs.
