2023/24 Jarrad Branthwaite

Thought he would go into a battle physically with Antonio today but might at risk of being outfoxed with Antonio’s experience. Haha. Er no.

Love him quite fairly winning ball near the corner and smashing the man as well and just trotting away before smirking at the award of a foul.

He deserves maximum credit himself, but the club and Kev have clearly managed his development, his loan and introduction to the squad perfectly. Makes a nice change. He has broken into the 1st team exactly at the point of being “ready”.

I've seen Dyche saying more than once that they are not over-coaching him ie: "Jarrad (Branthwaite) continues to learn and to find that Premier League way. We’re not over-coaching him, we’re letting him go a little bit but he’s doing a very good job."

If there are any pro-level coaches or trainers here, I would love to hear what that means in practice. Because in my thinking that would also mean errors and potential howlers, but those are nonexistent in his performances.

You remember when Rooney played for us as a kid? Proper maverick and looked like he would be the best in the world if you just let him play?

Goes to United and while he looked amazing, a bit of the natural maverick was lost as they coached him to play to their system. This benefited Ronaldo as Rooney sacrificed himself.

With Branthwaite, I'm taking it to mean that while theyre coaching him as part of the group in defensive phases...theyre not moulding him to be rigid and robotic.

Hope that makes sense.

I take it also to mean that Dyche knows how good he is and how much potential he has -- hes said the same about Onana as well.

….and he‘s made Garth Crooks ‘Team of The Week’ :celebrate:
