You remember when Rooney played for us as a kid? Proper maverick and looked like he would be the best in the world if you just let him play?

Goes to United and while he looked amazing, a bit of the natural maverick was lost as they coached him to play to their system. This benefited Ronaldo as Rooney sacrificed himself.

With Branthwaite, I'm taking it to mean that while theyre coaching him as part of the group in defensive phases...theyre not moulding him to be rigid and robotic.

Hope that makes sense.

I take it also to mean that Dyche knows how good he is and how much potential he has -- hes said the same about Onana as well.
Thanks for the reply. The comparison to Rooney cleared it up. I think Branthwaite being a centerback threw me off. It had never even occured to me that centerback could have natural "flair" that can be nurtured. Not like say Foden, Rooney, Bellingham, Lukaku, Barkley etc. But now that you pointed it out it makes sense and suddenly I realise that those CB's exist. Puyol, Cannavaro, Ramos, Stones, Mattheus etc.

Talk about a blind spot...

Chelsea are stupid, so wanting another £40m on top of fofanas fee is a lot of money. Not saying it’s not impossible but I don’t think he goes for that kind of money. Hope a salary and transfer cap comes in try and get some reality back in the game.

a salary cap can only come in if the sponsorship money is heavily heavily invested in grassroots, local communities and subsided tickets/travel for fans. which in this world isnt happening anytime soon.

as much as i don’t like teams being able to offer ridiculous salaries to bolster their chances of winning. i don’t like the idea of a multi billion industry, made up of majority working class (or even favela/3rd world poverty class) workers not getting their fair cut of the obscene amount of money generated by their labour. if there was a cap and that money went to the suits and executives it would be a travesty imo.

therefore I’m quite happy with them earning the salaries they do as the alternative is a UFC style model where lads are putting their lives on the line for 5k and Dana White and his cronies pull in millions

This!

Also see Vince McMahon & the WWE

I've always preferred to see the money go to the actual footballers! They are the ones that have done the hard work to get into that position

Fine but the money needs to be spread around much more evenly. The disparity makes a mockery of the entire competition.

John stones was another ..

And don’t forget Tony hibbert :)

He is ok, think the squad make him look better than he is. He will only sit on the bench if he moves on. Best stay where he is.

I think being left footed would have him in a lot of first team line ups of better teams including the England team in the future alongside Stones. Managers absolutely love a left footed centreback that can play out from the back.
