The exact profile of what we should be doing in recruitment. Taking a chance on lower league young players and offering them first team football to entice them here rather than the top clubs. He’ll undoubtedly move on at some point but by then we’ll be naming our price up there with world record CB fees.
Harry Catterick swore by it in his glory years - even then he noticed top players were scarce - plus the fees were getting high - plus many clubs after the same players .... his 1970 title side had 6 youth & then reserve players in it - plus two big money players ...different era - but the Catt spotted local & other youth players from afar - someone stated HK was the last class player he ever purchased ......1965....

I think we can command a higher fee if he's in the England squads though, shouldn't make a difference but it normally does.
Such a shame we’ll not see him develop. The Moshiti era, among other things, was meant to be the end of having to sell our top young players. Only way could see him not going next summer is if we get a huge bid for Onana and we sell him instead. If Branthwaite goes, as you say it’ll be a big fee was so good to get him signed to a new contract.

Shame indeed mate but unfortunately clubs like us rely on big money coming in for our players to keep going, something we haven't done since we sold lukaku and stones years ago.

If he keeps it up though we will be looking at silly money, genuinely think he could be England's best cb in time for the next big tournament ( stones aside )

Yeah the recruitment has been so poor in this regard for such a long time.
Have to factor in JB going on loan to PSV though.
That pass to Dom - Harrison was bred in the Eredivisie.

Agree 100% Id really like us to go for this guy, 17 year old Lucas Bergvall, I know he is young but the boy has magic in his feet and has had regular game time since the age of 15! The vultures will be circling soon and Id love us to get in there first.

Huge credit to Dyche to ensuring his pathway by not signing Coady.

And before anyone starts with saying we should have signed Coady as cover - he wouldn't sign to be a backup.

Erm the more likely version of events according to this forum is:

Dyche wanted to play Mina - too expensive so left

Dyche wanted to play Coady - we couldn’t afford him, Thelwell’s fault

Dyche can’t play Godfrey - he’s just so terrible that there’s no credit to Dyche for not playing him

Dyche can’t play Holgate - see Godfrey reason - loaned to Southampton

Dyche wanted to play Keane - started him at the beginning of the season when Branthwaite wasn’t fit but then bowed to fan pressure on internet forums to play Branthwaite (coincidentally at the same time as he was fully fit) and has only kept him in the team every game since then due to fan pressure.

Ergo Dyche deserves no credit and there’s perfectly valid reasons why a 21 year old is starting every week for Sean Dyche’s Everton and none of them have anything to do with Dyche …..apparently.

There was a time we could hope to keep a player like this for a good few years. Not now.
I’m starting to get way ahead of myself but!

We’re playing well
The league is the poorest it’s been for sometime
Good teams are knocked out of the league cup and we have a chance at a lower league quarter final if we get past Burnley
We have good young players getting better every week
Dyche is developing players well, creating team spirit and bond
Beautiful new stadium coming next season

It’s not insane to think we could finish top half and have a crack at a cup this season which could allow us to keep Onana, Branthwaite and co a little longer

…obviously the pessimist will say we’re skint and 777 are gonna come in and asset strip us and there’ll be a point deduction etc. but there are reasons to think things could be on the up

You make this sound like sarcasm but this is exactly what has happened.
