Spot on mate. Generally I say to sell players for big bids where you can. But we are lucky United didn't make a sensible offer, as he is critical to us.

Keeping clean sheets at almost 40% over a period of time like Branthwaite has, in a Everton side which is in constant relegation battles is an immense effort and puts him in the elite bracket.

Rio Ferdinand had 189 in 501 league games, playing for the best team in the country. Or using Van Dijk overall league record 109 in 279 league games. Again for an elite team.

So for me is it reasonable to say an insane record.

It will be a huge boost if he did sign a new long term deal and it should be high on the priority list to get done.

Branthwaite and Pickford is the one key partnership we should be looking to augment starting next month.

Somebody needs to ensure both of those players remain at the club while this rebuild begins.

You'd expect Pickford to stay long term.

Branthwaite I would say will sign an extension providing a top manager comes in and money is spent on players.

I hope that TFG sit down with Branthwaite, tell him their plan for Everton and offer him a very good new contract and captaincy of the club . If he doesn't go for this, and he probably won't, then they should tell him that he is going nowhere until the summer, but, if a bid of 80 million plus comes in in the summer, they will sell him.

I'm not sure its wise to offer him the captaincy if there will be a new manager taking over.
