Don't agree with this tbh, Gana has gave away the ball a good couple of times because his passing can be sloppy/careless around our box.
Yet amazingly any objective measure indicates the opposite. Balls lost? One of the best on the team even though he has the ball most. Passing? Same.

Did you mean in the other team's box? Because he also led the team in passes to.the final third and accuracy.

I've seen it with my own eyes m8, He didn't do it a lot but he sometimes has a tendency to sloppily give the ball away when we try to play out from the back due to his passing being a bit garbage at the time.

Dramatically underestimating how hard it is to play the role he does.

It's very difficult to read play two or three passes ahead to ensure you're in the right place to break up danger. That's what Gana did fantastically well.

His job was then to distribute to a player who can create once we're in possession. Indeed, if he wasn't doing those 5 yard passes, he wouldn't be doing the job tasked to him.
But again, he did more than that. He led the team in forward passes. He didn't just give it to someone else.

Regardless, he wasn't creative. No question. Limited in his passing.

Gbamin is more expansive. Absolutely. We will play a bit differently. My concern still is making up for Gomes in midfield when we don't have the ball. Let's home he improves.

I'm glad he's cleared up the debate surrounding his name (not!).

Can't wait for my first chat about him with my arl fella (85). Jags, Oumar, Lukaku and even Calvin Lewis have presented some challenges and entertainment for us in recent times!!

Everyone gives it away sometimes. But Everton was about the worst in the league at giving it away and he was one of the few that didn't do it often. He wasn't the problem.

But that wasn't his job.

That's what people don't seem to understand about Gana. He has one specific role, and he is exceptionally good at it.

As for his ball retention, it was very good. He plays in a role where if he does lose the ball then it's very noticable - but if you compare him statistically (and to be honest with your own eyes) to others who play his role, he was remarkably good at keeping it.

We're going to miss him, and Gbamin will be a success if he's three-quarters as good as Gana. There's no point trying to rewrite history.

Never said we’re not going to miss him, nor that he wasn’t exceptional at what he did best.

All I mentioned was that he had limited range of passing, which is true.

Ultimately, it depends what you want to achieve. I thought the Gana Gomes combination gave us the best of both worlds, and I would rather we kept Gana.

However, he is pushing 30, we have a player coming in who is younger and may give us something a bit different

Gana was great for us but it doesn’t mean we can’t try to make a positive out of replacing him.

Well you said he did not turn the ball over when he has many times a season, If we're trying to play out from the back we need the most calm collected passers on the ball and at times Gueye wasn't that.

He a footballer that plays in midfield, but passing the ball forward isn’t his job. Come on mate does us a favour.

I’ve criticised his passing in the past and his ability in the final 3rd. And I would get told that’s not his job, he’s s defensive midfielder, when really he isn’t. He doesn’t sit in front of the 2 CB’s that’s what a defensive midfielder looks like to me.

Fir probably 2/3rds of his time at Everton he had a Schneiderlin or a Barry( 1st season) doing the holding role. So he definitely had a bit more freedom to go forward.

We’ve all seen it loads of times in the last 3yrs, where he would get to the edge of the box and have a really poor shot or panic and play the wrong/misplace the pass. Or hold onto it to long that he losses possession.

You can’t use starts to say he was a world class tackler/recoveries pressing the opposition. Which he was at all these.
But then basically ignore the stats IE assists/goals creating chances/key passes. To suit your own argument. When these stats show he was a bang average midfielder.

He’s gone, let’s move on, good money fir a 30yr old and not the big loss, some people seem to think.

My sneaky bold prediction is that Delph starts more games than Andre on account of being a bit better out of possession
