He a footballer that plays in midfield, but passing the ball forward isn’t his job. Come on mate does us a favour.

That's right yeah. Same as throwing tackles and interceptions isn't Sigurdsson's job. Works both ways - they have different roles.

You can’t use starts to say he was a world class tackler/recoveries pressing the opposition. Which he was at all these.
But then basically ignore the stats IE assists/goals creating chances/key passes.

Yes I can. Same way I can ignore Pickford's assists and goal tallies to determine how well he's doing as a 'keeper.

Well you said he did not turn the ball over when he has many times a season, If we're trying to play out from the back we need the most calm collected passers on the ball and at times Gueye wasn't that.
Like saying we need the best finishers and at times Aubameyang missed chances.

My sneaky bold prediction is that Delph starts more games than Andre on account of being a bit better out of possession

...I think the manager particularly likes players like Gomes because they are brave in possession, particularly away from home and particularly against better opponents. He likes footballers who are confident in their own ability and brave enough to get the ball and keep it.

It’s more the reliance on entry level stats without any scrutiny as to why those numbers may not always tell the full story that I have a problem with mate.
If you're saying something that is in direct contradiction to every available stat that can be ok provided you have an actual reason the stats aren't telling the story and not just a general "I don't believe numbers" thing.

Maybe one day you will understand what a midfielders job is on the football field.

I agree but I also don't think Delph isn't those things. Maybe not to the same extent but if he's close enough and brings more security without possession, which we need in Gueyes absence, he might just come into favor.

Looking forward to this signing. Presuming it'll be Delph and gomes starting v Palace and Delph starts whilst he beds in, but what then?
Different set ups for the various opposition. I mean if we go to 4-3-3 for games, how can we leave siggurdsson out?

I’ve criticised his passing in the past and his ability in the final 3rd. And I would get told that’s not his job, he’s s defensive midfielder, when really he isn’t. He doesn’t sit in front of the 2 CB’s that’s what a defensive midfielder looks like to me.

Fir probably 2/3rds of his time at Everton he had a Schneiderlin or a Barry( 1st season) doing the holding role. So he definitely had a bit more freedom to go forward.

We’ve all seen it loads of times in the last 3yrs, where he would get to the edge of the box and have a really poor shot or panic and play the wrong/misplace the pass. Or hold onto it to long that he losses possession.

You can’t use starts to say he was a world class tackler/recoveries pressing the opposition. Which he was at all these.
But then basically ignore the stats IE assists/goals creating chances/key passes. To suit your own argument. When these stats show he was a bang average midfielder.

He’s gone, let’s move on, good money fir a 30yr old and not the big loss, some people seem to think.
Again, no one in the starting 11 has as many passes into the final third, and no one is more accurate.

Fair. But I think the stats support what I'm seeing on the pitch. He was not creative, no question. Which is a problem if he's playing farther up the pitch and even more magnified when his teammates aren't creating, either. He's not an amazing expansive passer. But he did pass it forward and took good care of the ball.

I just hope folks aren't going to give Gbamin that same criticism. If he's going to sit back as a true 6, you can't expect him to create chances. You can expect him to distribute well and help with our transition game.

Hasn't Silva explained how his 4-3-3 has no problem accommodating a 10 and Sigurdsson in particular enough? It's not the formation. Gomes gets left out if anyone does.

Yet amazingly any objective measure indicates the opposite. Balls lost? One of the best on the team even though he has the ball most. Passing? Same.

Did you mean in the other team's box? Because he also led the team in passes to.the final third and accuracy.

All measures except actually watching him.
