I believe you are right. It's a good while back now but I kind of remember Newcastle suing the FA (?) to pay Michael Owens' wages because he had been seriously injured on International duty and the Club felt they shouldn't have to suffer the financial burden. I'd take it if there was some sort of insurance involded there wouldn't have been an issue. Mind you I may be misremembering, I often do.

Players injured on international duty their wages have to be paid by their national federation.

That was back in October when he was working on his rehab in France. Nearly 5 months later and not fit yet to join the squad. Let's hope ancelotti gets some proper questions from the journalists at the next press conference...not only Gbamin is doing well bla bla bla...needs follow up questions...

Nah the club have brought it on themselves. They've given timescales that have been missed by miles, and continued to give 'updates' with very little information when they know people want it. They could have shut it down ages ago by just saying exactly what you've said, but they chose not to. It's been poorly handled, simple as that really.
Couldn't disagree more. Think that club have handled this exactly how they should have - cautiously.

He has had two awful injuries and it was always going to take a very long time to get him into a position where he could have a fair chance of making a comeback and avoiding significant lasting damage. If we rushed him back and he aggravated say his achilles again, then it's quite possible his career would be over. This is an extremely tricky rehab and it will take as long as it needs to take.

I very much admire your stoic optimism in the face of absolutely no evidence whatsoever.
Because I never want to willingly write anyone’s career off. There is no evidence that his career is totally finished either, yet some on here are absolutely desperate for it to be so just to have another pop at the club

But they haven't handled it cautiously, that's the whole point. I don't want daily updates on the minutiae of his recovery, that's just something people make up so they can moan about people moaning. The simple point is that the club could have been cautious and said 'it's a long road to recovery, we're not going to be giving updates or timescales because we just want him to get fit and give him all the time he needs to do that'. That would have been fine, there'd have been no issue there for me. Instead they've given timeframes which keep passing, and they invite questions at every single press conference, refusing to just close the subject down and making it sound like they haven't got a clue what's going on. I mean if you honestly think allowing the manager to field a question about him where he effectively has to give the answer that he's a bit confused by whats happening and where he is is handling it well, you should perhaps consider a career in PR for the government.

It's mad how this 25m pound signing is not having questions asked about his return, his injury, his current status and the fact that the manager is unable to put any kind of timeline on it or provide any concrete evidence of what's going on.

To me, Carlo knows he'll never kick a ball for us again and is under instruction to not let on that he'll never return to Premier League level. The club will be trying to offload him asap and hoping that he can somehow pass a medical elsewhere for a vastly reduced transfer fee.
