Thought he looked alright before his injury tbf. Didn't stand out as garbage just a little off the pace.
It’s because his debut is fresh in people’s minds, due to the fact he hasn’t played since the following game. It’s interesting that not Many people mention his 2nd game the win against a v good side. And I’m sure 7 days after palace, he was nowhere near fit, hardly knew his team mates and was probably still coming to terms with the speed of the league. I don’t recall him being outstanding v wolves, but I certainly don’t remember him stinking the gaff out like he did v palace lolCalm down mate, it's possible that I was being slightly hyperbolic. I've not rewatched the game or anything, I said i remember saying it at the time. Funnily enough none of the people I was chatting to at the time (who'd all been at the game) burst a blood vessel kicking off about it, because everybody agreed that he had been really bad. We didn't sit and make a list of the worst debuts unfortunately, but I'd definitely be interested to read yours.
Haven’t they moved it to next year? Or maybe even to the summer.Uhh...hang on, is AFCON this year? Can we just refuse to release him if it is?
No i agree with your general point, totally. Having a bad debut absolutely does not mean he's not a good player, I was just saying I wouldn't necessarily argue with someone saying he was awful at Palace, because he was. I thought he started well against Watford (who are most certainly NOT a very good side!) but tired very quickly. I thought we got overrun in midfield in that game much the same as we did throughout the season, but we managed to stick it out for once. I've said a few times, the signs were that he would take a little while to get to the speed of the game. I didn't think it was just fitness, he looked a bit like Fellaini did when he first came over, like he just couldn't get his head round how quickly he was closed down and it made him panic a bit. That's to be expected though, it's not really anything to worry about. It does mean that he'll probably need quite a long time to get used to it now though, because not only is it still a new league, but he's missed 18 months of football too. It’s because his debut is fresh in people’s minds, due to the fact he hasn’t played since the following game. Anyway he should have never been brought on v palace, that was Silva’s fault. He obviously wasn’t ready and did struggle, With the speed Of the Prem and got caught in possession a couple times, which Gomes still does 3 yrs in. but Gbamin did improved as it went on imo.
Im no stat pervert, but I also remember a few Fans sticking up for him, someone pointing out that he actually was up there with our most progressive passes on the day.
The worst debut, have a word with yourself. Like I’ve said the 50mins on the pitch we had 10men for 20 of them. And we didn’t concede, so I’m sure that wouid count for something.
When I’ve seen defenders & goalkeepers have Nightmares in games we’ve been battered in. And strikers missing sitters and looking like bambi on ice. To say it was the worst debut is ridiculous
Been moved to Jan 2022Haven’t they moved it to next year? Or maybe even to the summer.
