Toshun gets the odd post calling him a bald fraud etc not full on levels of abuse after 2-3 games.

Most free transfers are gash its not the club/Salomans fault the expectations are so high of a £1.7m budget.

The sensible fans knew the season was one of top half at best with that budget yet were called every name under the sun "sycophants" "lowering expectations".

No just realistic.
Nobody likes Tosun. Nobody.

He probably doesn't get what you perceive to be as much abuse because he has barely played for us for 3 seasons. There is nothing to moan about as he isn't there.

His transfer value doesn't mean that people should ignore how off the pace he has been. Townsend has been a success so far, many thought he was finished, you just never know when it will happen.

Your last two sentences have got nothing to do with what we are talking about. You are just shouting at clouds now.

To be fair you have probably been called worse!

Every club signs dud players - its just weird how the fanbase harp on about this fella on a free when its the other £300 million wizzed up the wall that has us in the mess we are in.

If Ancelotti signed Rondon he wouldn't be hammered as much as he is. Toshun cost £27 million and is no better yet never gets the same scrutiny on here.

Its Tosun not Toshun and he gets stick all the time when hes available. He's been injured and out of sight out of mind for a few just like Gbamin.

Also, Tosun is off next summer (or jan) and was signed by Allardyce years ago.

This is the here and now and the net £250mil odd spent doesnt mean we cant be alarmed that the club is still throwing money away on players.

Lessons havent been learned.

Back to Gbamin, i believ hes on about £50k a week. Thats about the same as Kean and less (supppsedly) than Rondon.

What we should be doing is gradually getting him games in u23s or as a sub in the league...

If hes then unable to improve to the level we need then Benitez and Brands need to try and buy out a % of his contract so he can go or we need to find a club to take him on loan for a % of his wages.

Every penny counts.

I'm guessing the Tosun thread is a bit dead because, you know, he hasn't played for us since January. Would be pretty weird to just pop into his thread.

Rondon? Probably. He looks totally finished.

Its not form, he is not "playing" badly. He is barely involved and can't get near the action.

I mean it absolutely can happen. He is it the age where you can lose that half yard combined with being in a couple of footballing backwaters for the past two seasons then yeah of course it can be the case. I take no pleasure in it, I thought he was a somewhat useful player in his prime. It happens.
he had no pre season. he's had a handful of games. its just not reasonable to say 'he's finished' at this point with any level of confidence. Maybe in six months time we can start giving verdicts, not now.

Its absolutely reasonable. Seen it happen loads of times.

As I said, I don't want it to be the case but it probably is. Seems a likeable enough bloke and was a decent top flight pro once. Being away from the top level can really take it out of you though especially at the age he is where it very rarely comes back.

He was worth a punt and hopefully can at least provide some use as a late game sub in future (which was probably the plan anyway).

Its not fitness, he should have been there after about 3 games.

this is why evertonians (not you in particular, just generally) don't deserve nice things Zero patience, and no perspective. A million pages on a free transfer who had no pre season. played a months footy, and the verdict is in already.

He is a seasoned pro with plenty of experience and paid handsomely.

In all honestly he shouldnt have 6 months at his age. If he isn't hitting the ground running then he is a failure of a signing.

No its not patience though is it? It's an informed opinion based on prior knowledge and experience.

You are not wrong in saying that people judge too early and readily but the Rondon stuff is going off comparisons to what he used to be like. He looks a completely different player.

Honestly his fee is irrelevant really. Being on a free doesn't mean we should not expect a better showing from a player as they were still deemed good enough to play for Everton.

Gbamin is probably doomed though now. Mainly because we have handled him horribly.

he's a failure if he isn't match fit, even though he's had no pre season?

Even if all the other players on the pitch has a preseason to get them up to speed?

It's been 2 months and he has had plenty of game time with plenty of under 23 football available to really get back up to speed.

pre season is only 2 months itself and only about 5-6 games so no excuse anymore.

He is clearly not cut out to play for us or at this level anymore. Delph has been injured for 2 months and still put a better 45 minutes than rondon has done in 2 months.

why can't he be more like Delph? Fabian has been here over two years and last night was the first time he turned up.
let's give him a few more weeks before we stick the boot in eh?

The thing is though, people like yourself will keep saying that, give it a few more weeks.

Except he isn't playing now. Richy is, first choice so rondon will sit on the bench not getting match time , then soon after third choice.

So there will always be an excuse , rather than admitting he is finished

Aside from individual performances the midfield structure was wrong anyway so impossible to judge. He didn't have a good game but we can't really expect him to come in with no minutes and expect him to perform at this level coming back from two serious injuries and two seasons out. As has been said he needs to build his fitness up to see if he can make it back, (it's not looking good but writing him off after forty five mins harsh too).Playing him a two only compounded it. In a three he could be the floating midfielder in a two onus on him is to be sat in, and he did look all at sea because he isn't up to speed. Allan wasn't sitting in either so there was a huge gap between defence and midfield and Wolves had the players to constantly drop into pockets of space and destroy us. But this is as much the system not suiting the available players, as it was the same against Watford with Davies in the two. It's no coincidence we improved when Townsend tucked in and Delph sat as a pure DM.
