In a 2 years time, we will be praying he signs a new contract for us.

Or not.

But I'm optimistic and think without anymore unfortunate injuries/poor management rushing him back, he can perform for us.
We spent 25m on the lad, so at some point, maybe, he showed something.

By all accounts he was very good in Russia and has now managed to stay fit for a long time.

We lose nothing from giving him a chance for 6months, its not like he costs us anything, other than a meagre wage.

I have no idea if hes good enough for us, nobody does, lets find out together.

Why?

What has he done to deserve the vitriol he receives?
That's just the point, He has done nothing. Literally.
However, I'd like to think the stint away playing regularly has given him some belief that he CAN play regularly. His physical problems are one thing, to overcome his mental demons is a considerable mountain to climb.
I don't think we should write him off too quickly. Ease him in. Make him feel part of the set up. It worked for Iwobi.

What on earth do you know about his “mental demons “ ?

Those words, 'mental demons' relate, in this instance, to the fact he has had several, quite serious, long term muscle injuries over the past few years. All this will play on his mind each time he sprints or stretches for a ball or strains to do a decisive tackle.
All of these factors, especially for a professional athlete, will continually be with him and could be a psychological barrier.
I can understand your interpretation of the meaning of my original post as it could have implied that he had other 'issues'. That was never my intention @fandjango, and I would like to apologise for this intimation.

This was totally my fault for not explaining it better.
