I hope it's Yakubu, we are a much better team with him in the side. Not just for his goals, but for his all round involvement in other areas of the pitch - Drifting outwide, dropping deep, holding the ball up and linking things together - he's the complete striker on his day. It's consistency with players like Yakubu, Cahill and Saha though, they've took there foot off the gas at certain times because there's been little competition in and around them.

I'd much rather it was James Vaughan giving us that pacy option but I wouldn't be too disappointed with Beckford. He'd be a useful option to have and he'd give us something different.

As a Leeds-based blue, I go and see Leeds play sometimes when I can't make it over to Goodison. I was there yesterday and despite Beckford scoring twice he missed an absolute sitter and his play off the ball is way below the standard we need. It would be a big mistake signing this lad. 26 and never played above League 1, there's a reason for that.

Yesterday was Beckford's best match since the FA Cup at White Hart Lane. I've said before, when he wants to be he is a fantastic player. He's Prem quality when he plays to his fullest potential and maybe you guys might just be in for a treat.

Woag hang on a minute windy. Yesterday, the game you was at - Beckford came on in the 75th minute and scored twice. Scoring twice in 15 minutes, and you condemn him for missing a chance?

It would be a big mistake signing this lad.

The same was said about Lescott. The same was said about Cahill. The same was said about Jagielka. The same was said about Arteta...

How signing a 26 year old on a free transfer constitutes 'a big mistake' I'll never know. If he doesn't perform, we sell him for a tidy sum.

He was 22 when Leeds signed him from Wealdstone. Earning himself a move to a top Premier League side in under four years isn't bad .

You can only beat whats in front of you, and so far, he's done that very well. Even netting a winner in a fierce derby against Man Utd and finding the net against Tottenham.

In todays football climate, I'd be astounded if we weren't in for him.

He'll want a decent wage and we're already in a buy to sell situation and so I assume that that also applies to our wage bill. I have seen a lot of Beckford and he is not premier league class, in my opinion the money would be better spent elsewhere. Cahill, Lescott and Jagielka had all played a level above Beckford (including a season in the prem for Jags) and so were less of a risk. Beckford is playing at the same level that jutkiewicz and spencer were playing at before coming to us, and while he has done better than them prior to coming to us, and is a more mature player, £20K a week or thereabouts is a lot of money.

So, this big risk is based on a wage we'll give to a League One striker.

Cahill £2million
Lescott with a crocked knee, having spent the entire year out previous. £5million (15%-20% sell on)
Jagielka £4 million

All represent more of a risk than a free Beckford to me.

Was thinking same, thought maybe I was confused had missed earlier discussions or something. But yeah. THIS.

The biggest risk is that a player with a bad attitude who can't cut it above League 1 wastes a decent squad space for a season.

If Saha keeps his injury record up and Yakubu blows hot and cold again do we really want to be relying on Beckford to get us goals in games that matter?

Thats the biggest risk for me.

If he gets used as an occasional sub and Carling Cup games etc fine but if he doesn't deliver if asked to do more than that we could be in trouble.

Of course he could do the business though.

No fee and relatively cheap wage, if he doesn't cut it or turns out a belter then he will have resale value and a whole host of Championship clubs willing to take a punt on him.

Win y win.

THIS DANNY.

Alot of snides got it in for Beckford.

YOU DON'T SCORE 30 IN A SEASON BY BEING [Poor language removed]. And you don't score at Old Trafford and White Hart Lane by being [Poor language removed] either.

I've not got a clue what this WindyMiller's going on about.

There is no fee for Beckford.
