2024/25 Jesper Lindstrom

You'll get stick over Lindstrom because he is the current whipping boy for the old da's on here.

Can usually see that by the reason to write him off constantly morphing into the next thing, first it was not being up for the fight, due to one game he got taken off after seeming to let his head drop, then after he showed he was it's currently not being strong enough for the league . Yanno the same league that saw such powerhouses as Osman, Silva, Zola, Jorginho, and countless other players who physically would get blown over by a stuff breeze do just fine in.

Ofc it could be that he's not strong enough to play in a Dyche side where the winger is expected to play as a makeshift right back. That's a fair assesment - thankfully Dyche is gone and funnily enough the people slating Lindstrom are by and large ones who also want to see more attacking footy...

Moyes will like him btw, he's worked with players like him before a d got results, Pienaar was very very similar when he arrived from Dortmund, physically sleight player who'd had a big move and seen a slump in form who initially struggled with the physicality of this league - until he adjusted and Moyes found how best to utilise him, same will happen with this lad I'm betting.
Can I ask what is this old da bit ,I am 76 and that has no effect on my judgement of players .The only thing is I have seen great Everton teams ,so can tell the difference in those who are good enough and those stealing a living . To compare Stevie P with him or Harrison is misjudged ,some thing has blurred with time for you .

Not blurred at all mate, I remember how Pienaar was looked at after he arrived and same stuff said about Lindstrom was said about him, can't hack it in this league, too weak etc etc etc.

He was said to be too weak for the league and his game suited Spain more, his big money move to Dortmund flopped on part to them having a weirdly similar situation to Napoli last year, three managers, a horrid season and Pienaar getting a lot of the blame as a big money flop.

Funny thing though I also am.old enough to remember Ratcliffe getting dogs abuse from the crowd for being crap initially.

As fans we historically have loved to jump on a player early on and write them off, despite it time and again showing we maybe we should wait before writing off a player who joined a few months this earlier - and Lindstrom has being getting slated by some now since September.

Nothings blurred with time for me but do think you look back and your judgement is based on how they ended up being rather than your initial knee jerk reaction, ofc you may have from day one thought Ratcliffe was amazing or Jags looked a great buy as he failed around looking clueless in centre mid, or Coleman looked like he'd become a great right back as he played on the wing, or that indeed Pienaar looked physically up for the league in his first few months. Still remember this place when Branthwaite started and got sent off, yeah lots were saying the lads gonna be worth 70+ million, nobody kinda reacted like he was crap.

I want every player who pulls on the jersey to do well but Lindström is I fear not the player we thought looking at YT ,this league is the toughest and he is too easy to push off the ball. Take note I called it with lots of players but I would love to be wrong with him,Harrison and whoever else has been a whipping boy .

Yeah but you can adjust to that, new league, pretty much after a season hardly playing and coming from a system that played very open attacking play under Glasner.

Easier to teach a lad to be a bit more physical than it is to teach them how to have vision mate or off the ball movement or to be able to thread a pass through.

Unless your Dyche ofc who just wants the physical side above everything.

I hope he gets a better chance than Billy who was extremely talented but not 'ard like.

Oh I'm almost certain that Moyes will look at the lad and really try to unlock him, it's a no brainer to do so, someone whose shown in the past he can play at a really high level but whose had a really crap year, for Moyes that's goldust - same as with Pienaar, arteta, and a lot of others.

Think he will really kick on Ndiaye as well actually and O'Brien, certain players Moyes just works well with and all three of those lads really want to succeed here.

Can almost imagine the Moyes speech to Ndiaye and Lindstrom, "lads I don't want you to spend 99% of the game worrying about defending against their fullback I want you making them think about defending against you" now go score some goals

….but all wide players need to work back, Matey, it’s been that way since Giggs and Beckham. What they need to be is a threat in attacking areas.

There’s no excuse for Lindstrom not making an impact, the lad puts in a shift but he’s not exploited opportunities in the top third. He’s been disappointing given his quality. If there’s one issue with our wide attackers, I’d say the full-backs aren’t the best ‘partners’. Again we bring players in with no thinking about blend.

Maybe Lindstrom is best as a no10 but it’s really up to him to produce.

Love the video out today seeing him chatting to Moyes.

Moyes runs into Lindstrom and was joking around with him. Lindstrom was saying he's at the right club now, in reference to playing for Frankfurt who beat Moyes' WHU in the Europa semifinals in 2022.

Moyes ain't stupid he'll utilise this lad well.

Moyes joked that he knew him and he was a massive pain in that EL semi final. It made Lindstrom very relaxed.

I hope so. Although my knowledge of other managers is limitef, I think Moyes is a very good choice at this stage

Can imagine Moyes tempting players like O’Brien, Lindstrom etc. into blaming Dyche for not giving them minutes or playing them the right way just so he can tell them they will get a chance now, and the shirt is theirs if they fight for every inch and show the quality that brought them to the PL, otherwise they will remain on the fringe. Throw them a honest challenge without telling them they are “not ready” or “learning what it takes”.

No surprise Lindstrom looks weak for the league. He’s not a natural winger and not hugely rapid so full backs can get right up him and he’s usually receiving the ball already under pressure. If he could create magic out of that then he is too good to play here. Dom would never look to slide a ball for him behind the full back either, he hasn’t the vision. He’s basically been playing the Harrison role.

Hard being a wide player for Dyche with the defensive responsibilities, especially if you aren’t actually a wide player. Or particularly defensively minded. Nightmare for him really. No wonder he got frustrated with himself.

Not a clue if he will suddenly come good. He could be poo. The way he’s been used so far, we’ve learned almost nothing about him, other than he’s not clinical at the back post. I also have some sympathy for Harrison for the same reasons. (emphasis on “some”). He’s been here longer, so has had more time to be made substantially worse and have his confidence destroyed.

I’d love for some of these shouts to be right and you can never rule it out but I think we’re often very quick to make excuses for players and he seems to be one. We’re not talking about someone who just hasn’t quite hit the heights, we’re talking about someone who hasn’t scored for 2 years and has had barely had a handful of decent moments in over half a season here. It’s easy to blame managers for absolutely everything but at some point players have to produce something.

I wonder as Moyes West Ham team have played 2 legs against him then Moyes might know the quality he showed as a no.10 and actually play him there. Just a thought. Seeing as it didn't work out at Napoli as a winger just maybe no.10 is his position. Now Dyche has gone Moyes might see Lindstrom as a more natural no.10 than Doucoure. The dilemma is that Illiman is another no.10
