Joao Moutinho

What a laugh I just had.

Saw it in the portuguese press. But for crying out loud, does Moyes really think he can get players, who are important members of their clubs (and we're talking about a club that has sold 2 players to united for 40M€) in the range of 25M€ on loan?

Fernandes wasn't an automatic choice for Benfica neither for Valencia. That's not the case of Moutinho. He's the captain and at 21 he has over a 100 games for his club. This season there is only one player with 2 more games than he played (Xavi) but with only 10 minutes more of time play (after the first match of the Euro Moutinho has become the player with most time of play present in the Euro).

With clubs like Barcelona and AC Milan interested, apart from Arsenal and Man Utd (who still keep an eye on the player), do you really think Everton could get a loan deal?

Don't you think that we're talking about joking with other club? Is that the way Mr. Moyes?

Why not going for CRonaldo on a loan deal?

Fernandes was first choice for Benfica actually mate.

Ah your another one who thinks that lowly Everton who finished 16th last season wont be able to bring in these players.

Oh course, they have never heard of us ay?

money will rule this transfer. we used to have a half decent player ourselves who we thought would never leave us. get real mate. if we offer 15 fat ones sporting will fall over themselves to let us use their pen for the contract.

No he wasn't. He was just a promising youngster who had a good run in the first team. he was just starting to impose himself. But right after that he decided he wanted out and that's why he went for Portsmouth on loan.

That's not the case of Moutinho. And the point of my post, or the reason for my laugh, was the loan deal. That's laughable.

Sporting has never loaned their star players. Whoever wants them, pays them.

And asking for a loan deal on your team captain must be a very disrespectful way to treat a club. Specially when you're talking about a player that is wanted for a couple of good clubs in Europe.

So if Moyes wants him, he should show the money and cut the bulls...t talk about loans.

Imagine that United did come for Rooney only on loan. Would it be acceptable?

There is a release clause of 25M€. If Everton can pay it, only the player will decide his future.

But the club will reject offers of less than the release clause. Nani had a 20M€ release clause and was sold for 25,5M€.

Moutinho and Veloso are very wanted players by sporting and both will only be sold for the clause. But never on loan to anywhere.

This may all be a rumour anyhow mate, so its pointless blaming this on Moyes as its all speculation.

Fernandes played over 60 games in three years for Benfica. Thats pretty much a first team player for me.

60 games doesn't mean he played 90minutes x 60 games.

Playing one minute in 60 games will show up as 60 games in the statistics.

Moutinho played 62 games this season.

When I was studying in Portugal which was around 04/05 he was a regular. They won the League and he played alongside Petit. He was also a regular in the season they went far in the Champions League and beat Liverpool, Villarreal and Man utd along the way.

He had atleast two seasons where he played alot of games. I never saw him in his first season but I'm guessing he was a bit part player.

I'm not saying he was as regular as Moutino because Moutinho has played in Portugal alot longer. Fernandes left early after three seasons.

I agree though Moyes won't get him on Loan. If we want him we'll have to buy him and pay a reasonably big price. Thats the way it has to be. He's a key player for Sporting and key players cost alot of money.

What would you feel about it if we got him? I know your a Sporting fan. Would you be dissapointed if he left for your second club Everton?

To be honest as much as I rate Moutinho I'd rather have Fernandes. Fernandes is much more suited to English football in my opinion. I'd expect Moutinho to go to Italy or Spain.

You must be joking their mate. Moutinho is prove class an a quality player. Theirs no chance we'll get him as big champions leagie teams are on the sniff. But to say you'd rather fernandes as he's suited to english football...........when?:unsure: He's never looked suited to me.

Best. Rumour. Ever.

I was thinking about suggesting this a couple of days ago, but thought it was ludicrous when i heard the likes of arsenal and madrid were after him.

...He is a quality player.

He's bigger, stronger and quicker than Moutinho. Positionally he'd also be alot more comfortable in English football than Moutinho in my opinion. I think Moutinho is the better of the two without a doubt but for me he's destined for Italy or Spain.

Moutinho is proven in the Portuguese League. Hardly a proven quality player. He's potential like Fernandes in my opinion. Could be a superb player but still has a few things he needs to work on like every player. He's more proven than Fernandes yes but he stayed at one club and been given a chance to settle and prove himself.

Fernandes looked class in his first spell. He played reasonably well in every game he played. If he hadn't Moyes wouldn't have tried to spend 12 million on him. I can't see how anyone doubts this. He wouldn't have had so many fans if he was inconsistent or poor.

But I won't argue as you know a quality player when you see one. Fernandes is no Alan Smith.:D

Moutinho is more proven than fernandes was - how many people heard of fernandes before he went to portsmouth??

Moutinho has a pass wihch is better than fernandes, and he has skill - and he knows when to use it unlike fernandes. Im a huge fan of fernandes, but Moutinho is the better player. Better work rate too.

From what I have seen of Moutinho theres a massive difference between him and Fernandes, and thats you always notice Moutinho is playing. He actively gets involved in everything, puts himself about a bit - probably why hes been captain at Sporting since 19. He makes himself noticed, combined with the ability to produce something extra special from time to time.

Fernandes is just more of the latter.
