Moutinho is more proven than fernandes was - how many people heard of fernandes before he went to portsmouth??

Moutinho has a pass wihch is better than fernandes, and he has skill - and he knows when to use it unlike fernandes. Im a huge fan of fernandes, but Moutinho is the better player. Better work rate too.

I never denied he wasn't better than Fernandes. He is but I do feel Fernandes is more suited to English football.

There are lots of players who are quality players but I can't see then suiting english football. I think Moutinho would be more suited to Spain or Italy.

Thats a fair comment.

If you not going to debate with me then there's no point. I gave a perfectly valid opinion and your just taking the piss. We'll leave it at that.

But I won't argue as you know a quality player when you see one. Fernandes is no Alan Smith.:D

No mate, thats a dig. So you got one back. I'll take it that was'nt taking the piss??

Your right it was a valid point an your opinion. An i disagree with it an your stance on fernandes. I think he's poor an only ever shown flashes of class. But Moutinho is an will always be a better player...IMO.

Fernandes and Moutinho in the middle would be amazing though.

Huddlestone

Arteta Fernandes Moutinho

Cahill

Yakubu

Fair enough mate. I apoligise for that. :)

Anyway, back to the debating. I never actually said Fernandes was better than Moutinho. Moutinho for me is without doubt the better player but I couldn't see him fitting into English football. I don't think he has the physical attributes and his position is a problem. I feel he'd be wasted outwide in England and wouldn't revel.

Fernandes on the other hand does have the physical attributes to go with his flair and ability. He's strong, reasonably quick and bigger in stature.

Its like Van der Vaart or Deco. Both quality players and better than alot of players currently playing in the Prem but I couldn't see them fitting im.

I could be wrong and if we do sign him I'd be very willing to give him a go. He's got a tremdous attitude and is a real leader over in Portugal and maybe he would have a chance.

(y)(y)(y) As you said, Lets get back to the debating.

When I was studying in Portugal which was around 04/05 he was a regular. They won the League and he played alongside Petit. He was also a regular in the season they went far in the Champions League and beat Liverpool, Villarreal and Man utd along the way.

He had atleast two seasons where he played alot of games. I never saw him in his first season but I'm guessing he was a bit part player.

I'm not saying he was as regular as Moutino because Moutinho has played in Portugal alot longer. Fernandes left early after three seasons.

I agree though Moyes won't get him on Loan. If we want him we'll have to buy him and pay a reasonably big price. Thats the way it has to be. He's a key player for Sporting and key players cost alot of money.

What would you feel about it if we got him? I know your a Sporting fan. Would you be dissapointed if he left for your second club Everton?

To be honest as much as I rate Moutinho I'd rather have Fernandes. Fernandes is much more suited to English football in my opinion. I'd expect Moutinho to go to Italy or Spain.

I'd be disappointed to see him leaving. it's not about Everton. (BTW, I rate Everton as much as rate Sporting. If I ever get to watch a match between the two I really don't know how i'd react).

Fernandes had a good season in the year they won the championship. He played a lot of games (29 I think), but he wasn't a first choice everytime.

But in the season they knocked out Man U and Liverpool, I think he wasn't there. The coach was Ronald koeman, and the double in the midfield was composed by Petit and Beto. And I remember this because Beto scored the second goal against United at Lisbon.

Fernandes is stronger and faster, yes indeed. Moutinho outsmarts him, defends better, passes the ball better and can keep running like forever. He's small but he's tenacious. And he's extremely consistent. Even when he's having a bad day you'll see him running and fighting for the ball. You'll see him marking an opposition player if the manager asks him to even if it means he won't be under the lights. He accepts a secondary role when he has to. He's a dream for every manager.

If Moutinho was to be bigger in size he'd be the perfect midfielder. Mentally and technically speaking he is the perfect midfielder.

Actually, in the last match against Turkey, he ran more miles than any other portuguese player, he had a passing rate of 97% :o. And he assisted the second goal with class.

He's class, he really is.

What pissed me off was the rumour of a loan. We just can't toy with players of this caliber. What will other players think if we chase highly rated players on loan basis? They'll laugh us off.

Moyes should make himself serious when it comes to sign players. And these rumours should not be allowed. Honestly this one makes us less respected throughout world football.

PS - Did anyone noticed Abramovich in Portugal's match celebrating the second goal? He is rumoured to have made a 20M€ offer for Moutinho, who's referenced by chelski since Mourinho's days.

I think he missed 5 games in the season they won the League. He was definatly a starter most games. In the Champions League season he was also a starter. The only game he missed was the game you mentioned and that was due to injury. The 2-1 win it was.

He played in the Lille, Man utd, Liverpool, Villarreal and Barcelona games that season though. He competeted and started in 9 of the 10 games in the Champions League that season. The only season I'd say he was bit part was his first season when he first broke through. Camacho was the manager at the time.

I have nothing but good words to say about Moutinho. I think he's a fantastic player, his attitude is second to none and he is without doubt a better midfielder than Fernandes. He's more mature, more experienced and has a better attitude. I don't think there would be a big difference if Fernandes settled down but I do feel Moutinho edges it and always will.

I don't even think there comparable though to be honest. Both different types of midfielders. Fernandes is a deep lying play maker and plays very deep whereas Moutinho is an attacking midfielder and is at his best in the final third. If where going to compare anyone Portuguese it would be Deco-Moutinho and Fernandes-Veloso. Similar sort of players who can be compared.

I stand by my word though. I do feel Moutinho is more suited to Italy or Spain whereas Fernandes would revel more in England. Thats not anything against him its just than certain players suit certain leagues.

On the Moyes issue. I don't think where less respected. No one actually knows if the rumour is true or not. If its true then I do think its a silly bid. He's a quality player, an international, a captain and a key player for his current team. No way would we snap him up on loan. If we want him we'll have to pay up.

Do you think Moutinho would be interested in a move to Everton? How much would he cost if we where to go for him? 12 million maybe?

He has a 25M€ release clause that is valid until next Sunday. after that day the release clause will be no longer active.

Well, it is hard to say if he would like join us. There are big fishes after him. He's on a 100k€ a month. Do we possess resources to meet his wage demands (which would be considerably higher than this 100k€) or to equal other clubs offers?

Moutinho can play anywhere in the midfield. Actually his best performances came when he was playing defensive midfielder.

Just watch him: http://videos.sapo.pt/4m22IWH1Mg39cYVsYL88

Sporting was losing 2-0 at half time. But then, the small general turned it around.

I havnt seen him that much if i am honest but will have a look at him tomorow, wouldnt the reported £16.5 mill be close to the equivalent of 25 mill yoyos in his release clause.

Anyway this one might go on as i dont see anything happening untill after the Euros.

Hope there is no third party element to this.
