I'd be disappointed to see him leaving. it's not about Everton. (BTW, I rate Everton as much as rate Sporting. If I ever get to watch a match between the two I really don't know how i'd react).
Fernandes had a good season in the year they won the championship. He played a lot of games (29 I think), but he wasn't a first choice everytime.
But in the season they knocked out Man U and Liverpool, I think he wasn't there. The coach was Ronald koeman, and the double in the midfield was composed by Petit and Beto. And I remember this because Beto scored the second goal against United at Lisbon.
Fernandes is stronger and faster, yes indeed. Moutinho outsmarts him, defends better, passes the ball better and can keep running like forever. He's small but he's tenacious. And he's extremely consistent. Even when he's having a bad day you'll see him running and fighting for the ball. You'll see him marking an opposition player if the manager asks him to even if it means he won't be under the lights. He accepts a secondary role when he has to. He's a dream for every manager.
If Moutinho was to be bigger in size he'd be the perfect midfielder. Mentally and technically speaking he is the perfect midfielder.
Actually, in the last match against Turkey, he ran more miles than any other portuguese player, he had a passing rate of 97%
. And he assisted the second goal with class.
He's class, he really is.
What pissed me off was the rumour of a loan. We just can't toy with players of this caliber. What will other players think if we chase highly rated players on loan basis? They'll laugh us off.
Moyes should make himself serious when it comes to sign players. And these rumours should not be allowed. Honestly this one makes us less respected throughout world football.
PS - Did anyone noticed Abramovich in Portugal's match celebrating the second goal? He is rumoured to have made a 20M€ offer for Moutinho, who's referenced by chelski since Mourinho's days.
