Not sure if its been written before but from my knowledge Joel was regarded as the next major Spanish keeper before he injured himself and De Gea came along? I think this is a fantastic signing for a relatively cheap price. Sure hes got a few mistakes in him but Howard had his far share last season and hes only young! Very exiting keeper in my eyes.

nice to hear. plenty good keep keepers kept out of teams by more immediately reliable options. from watching that video I see a keeper willing to take responsibility and gets down quickly which is a massive plus but can lead to accusations of mistakes when keepers who stay on their line and get down slowly won't get the same level of stick

Not convinced by this lad. Just watched a vid of his time at Wigan. He looks like he has calamities in him. At one point, he's out by his peno spot, with players and the ball in the 6 yard box. Luckily, for him, the ball was headed back out and he caught it.

Every keeper makes their mistakes. The Bale one i feel was more Maynor's fault than Joel's. He is very young for a keeper and as said was once rated higher than De Gea, if he can live up to that potential at us with Howard and coaching staff helping him, it will be a very good deal.

Howard need to be pushed. He just wasnt being pushed for his place. He did make his own mistakes last season as well, although he did make up for some of them with some fantastic saves. Joel will learn well from him. Also a bit plus is Joel actually has the physical presence that Howard does not have, and is not afraid to command his box and jump and hold onto the ball.

Just as a little side note, i do feel why we got him so cheap is as someone said as the deal went through, maybe a buy back deal for like 5 million and after 2 years that goes. We will see. Excited to see him progress, me.

Mucha made a mistake in his first game, was always going to be tinted views from there. He won us that City game IMO, coming off his line twice so quickly to stop two certain goals. Good shot stopper, but like Howard, suspect aerially. At least he punches it away rather than attepting to catch and dropping it.

It would be a drastic move to drop Howard and I can't see it happening immediately. I'm pretty sure Howard will start as no.1 but Robles will be breathing down his neck and I'd expect him to play in the cups at least, while he gets used to his new teammates and continues learning his craft.

I don't think he'll start out first choice. But i fully believe he will be first choice, and better than Howard by jan.

Maybe Howard has been told to kick it up though in the past? Its not really that hard to play it out as a goalie.

If I heat Tiki Taka mentioned in an official capacity by Martinez though I will be booing him every chance I get. Such a pretentious term.

Certainly, just as he does when he plays for the US. You don't need to be Xavi with your feet to play the ball on the ground as a keeper.

My biggest complaint when it comes down to Howard is the lack of command he has of his area. From what I've seen of Robles in the two friendlies so far he's like a guard dog the second an opposition player steps inside.

Howard will be the starting with NO second thoughts as long as the back 4 do their job.
Clean sheets will equal plenty of starts.
