Does it worry you that he doesn't seem wanted? Surely if they thought he was worth much they'd try to resign him and loan him out again to try and raise his stock. The fact that they're letting him go for crumbs isn't inspiring.

Not convinced by this lad. Just watched a vid of his time at Wigan. He looks like he has calamities in him. At one point, he's out by his peno spot, with players and the ball in the 6 yard box. Luckily, for him, the ball was headed back out and he caught it.

To be fair to him, he's very young for a goalie. He's got saves in him, but I'm not convinced by his decision making. Hopefully he's 'one for the future.'

I really do not think he should replace Howard for the time being. In fact, I don't see why Howard should be replaced in the forthcoming future. It is clear we need striker and CM that will improve our starting 11 but I don't think we have done that yet. We are barely signing a few squad players to buck up the squad.

He's young and was cheap, has got potential but he's no david De Gea in waiting. There's a reason athletico let him go, and a reason they have loaned a keeper themselves the past 3 yrs instead of progressing with him.
Goalkeepers are a funny breed with very few world class ones about and even the best make mistakes and can have horrendous runs of form. "You's pay your money, and take your chances" with them in the hope they turn out good ones!
Just have to wait and see. I don't see him dislodging Howard immentaly tho...

The culprit is Maynor Figueroa who, not under explicit pressure, backpasses to his keeper, who has bale galloping straight at him.
It was at worst a one-on-one situation which he couldn't use his hands.

I agree. Not convinced because he's not the finished product.
He has a lot going for him, makes himself look big, uses his frame well and looks a good shot stopper, but he is still very raw.
Doesn't catch the ball anywhere near enough preferring to punch or palm. Looks very erratic as you can see in the video and looks to over compensate when out of position.
The corner you refer to in the video is one and the Bale goal (which isn't in the video) was Figueroa's fault as much as it was his. Looked lazy and complacent in his clearance which led to the goal.
Look at the save at 0.39 in the video. Cardinal sin of starting to move towards the near post before the free kick is taken. Very risky.
The goal we conceded against Accrington was always going to go in anyway but again he over commits and then stumbles when scrambling back across goal.
Still think he looks a great buy who will grow and mature under Howard. Needs to work on his composure and control from the little I've seen.

Howard will be first choice, we needed a keeper to be Howard under-study and this kid is ambitious enough to fight Howard for his place, Howard needs the competition, don't understand why Moyes didn't breed competition for places.

Not sure if its been written before but from my knowledge Joel was regarded as the next major Spanish keeper before he injured himself and De Gea came along? I think this is a fantastic signing for a relatively cheap price. Sure hes got a few mistakes in him but Howard had his far share last season and hes only young! Very exiting keeper in my eyes.

He has some rough edges, but he is young and could get quite a lot better. He is also a player better than being here just keeping Howard honest. Could end up a very very good deal for us.
