Joel Robles

Since he came into the side for back to back appearances (starting last season when he had his first consecutive games when Howard was injured), yesterday was his first bad game I can recall. I was being conservative saying more good than bad. It's been 95% good.

But I do want and expect as good as possible, like you. If Joel was at his peak then I'd want us to look for better. I just think young keepers who've already shown improvement deserve a chance. Him and Barry are the only two who haven't let us down on the whole, so I really just don't like them being scapegoated.

Basically, he may not turn out to be our number 1 long term and I'm not claiming he will be. But I've seen enough good from him and enough improvement that I think he deserves his chance. If we go and buy a top class keeper I will not moan, but if we stick with Joel I'll be backing the lad. He genuinely cares and hasn't wilted like some of the cowards in this side have.

Stoke, Newcastle & Hull were all in that run and he was garbage, then he didnt face a shot against west brom, messed up twice and got saved on the line twice by Stones and Jagielka against palace and repeated his krasnodar mishap against liverpool only for Sterling to mess it up.

Your figure of 95% good games is just plain ridiculous really considering hes only played 42 games for us and after last night you're basically saying hes only ever had 1 other bad game.

Hes been ok this season, nothing more nothing less and that is not good enough for a number 1 goalkeeper.

Don't be a pedant; clearly the 95% was not literal. I'd comb through his games one by one and tally them up into a more accurate percentage but even I'm not that sad.

I think if you actually read my posts you'd see we don't disagree as much as you think. I said if this was his peak then I'd want better. I've said that a few times. I just don't think he's had enough time and the current situation at the club is not conducive to bringing the best out of any player. I also believe he's shown some improvements since signing.

And generally I'm a strong believer in prioritisation. Focusing on Joel is like trying to putting out a joss stick in the middle of a house fire.

The mistake for the first goal badly affected his confidence, but at times it was like he was playing with no one in front of him.

Is he good enough? No.

Is he awful? No.

This pretty much what i just posted without seeing your post mate. my feelings exactly.
My first thought last night was at least he didn't do that in the Semi.I remember De Gea making more than a few howlers in his first season, even the top keepers have a nightmare game now and again.Like us to keep him as a back up at least, and if our dreams materialise he'll have cup runs and European competition group games to improve his consistency..
