Joel Robles

Did RK bring a goalkeeping coach with him? Somebody clearly has made a difference for Joel........He seems so much more confident and commanding.

Lets have it right; this Joel performance is nothing new.
He was solid last year bar one game.
He was fantastic the year before in his period of games. West Ham in the cup was one of the best goal keeping performances I have seen for many a year. He made saves he had no right to.

Said it many times but he has ALL the attributes to be a top class goal keeper. He simply needs time to prove he is up to it. I dont mean ten games, I mean at least a season.

It was very unfortunate for him that Koeman came in as I believe he would have started as our number one this season had Martinez been in charge still. But he has again showed superb attitude to wait for his chance and is taking it.

I really hope Koeman lets him have the rest of the year to try and prove that he doesnt need to go and spend £20m on a top goalie as thats what it will cost to get better than him now days.

He may not be in the elite of Courtois, DDG, Lloris yet but he has time on his side AND he needs the chance to prove that he can get there. I really dont see why he cant. He is a baby compared to them; yesterday was only his 50th in English football.

Delighted that this very forum are mentioning him as one of the better ones in the league these days. This just shows how far he has come in a short space of time.

completely agree, and lets remember de gea looked awful in his first full season at utd, he was given time and is not rated as one of the worlds best.
Joel was also prefferred at one point to de gea at athletico so he's clearly got talent

He is benefitting from the defence clearly trusting him, same with Stekelenburg. The defence seem to trust both keepers, something we didn't have under Martinez / Howard.

Cast your mind back to 2014

Howard was injured and Robles came in for 7 league games, The first being the Derby, He kept 4 clean sheets in that period and was dropped for the clown once he was fit

I agree almost entirely with that sentiment.

Robles should never have been dropped that time.

I think it is unnecessary to refer to Timmy as a "clown" though.

He served our club with distinction for many seasons before his decline.

Agree with most of that mate but with couple of exceptions. I think he has improved this season. He's more dominant in the 6 yard box and I also think his decision making is better. Probably a combo of the new GK coach and him maturing as a GK. Still very young for his position.

Secondly in the current market, unless you go for a very young keeper with potential, you'll probably need to spend in excess of £30m to get someone better.

He was an utter joke, Hated him towards the end the star jumping weapon

Remember his basically gifting goals nearly every game

So glad the likes of him, Hibbert, Osman and Martinez are a distant memory
Some of the blame should also go to Martinez mate for being so stubborn/loyal and for earlier bringing him back in when Robles was in such good form.

But I supposed he paid the ultimate price (eventually!!). Martinez would possibly still have been our manager if he'd stuck with Robles.
